  • Patent number: 4339919
Abstract: A muffler mounting (26) for a muffler (21) which is connected to an internal combustion engine (11) by a rigid exhaust pipe (16). Previous mountings for such mufflers have either been of the rigid type, which subjects the muffler to undesired stresses resulting from shock, vibration or thermal expansion, or have utilized flexible rubber belting hangers which deteriorate rapidly when subjected to high temperatures. The present invention provides a relatively thin, flexible, generally-vertical metal hanger (52) comprised of a plurality of thin, stainless steel, strips (53) overlaid on one another, to flexibly connect and support the muffler (21) to the engine (11) or frame (12). The present invention is particularly useful in vehicles wherein the engine (11) is resiliently mounted on the frame (12) and wherein the muffler mounting (26) is subject to high temperatures, corrosion, and oxidation.

  • Patent number: 4012174
Abstract: The invention is concerned with an improvement in a manually activated fuel priming pump for an internal combustion engine comprising a housing having a barrel communicating at its lower end with a flange disposed transversely to the barrel. A plunger communicates at its upper end with a handle, the plunger being reciprocally mounted in a chamber of the barrel to selectively pump fuel from a first to a second valve located in the flange of the housing. The plunger has around the periphery thereof means slidingly sealing it with low friction against a bore defining the chamber. The improvement of the invention comprises a member co-axial with the plunger and extending therefrom towards the flange and member-bore seal means slidably sealing said member to said bore and disposed to allow flow of said fuel from a space within said chamber between said plunger and said flange to said second valve and to retard flow of said fuel in a reverse direction.

  • Patent number: 3980132
Abstract: Heat exchanger having a self-adjusting snap-on fan shroud. The shroud defines a one-piece element having integral mounting structure for snap-on mounting to the heat exchanger and biasing structure for urging the shroud to a preselected centered position relative to the fan. The shroud may be formed of molded synthetic resin. The heat exchanger may be provided with securing bolts with the shroud mounting structure being adapted to loosely embrace the bolts in the snapped-on arrangement of the shroud.
