  • Patent number: 10397980
Abstract: A method and apparatus for electing a coordination node in a Coordinated Multipoint (CoMP) set of cooperating nodes for receiving channel information from wireless devices operating in a wireless network. In one aspect, a method is provided for a node which includes determining a channel quality parameter for the node indicative of a channel quality between the node and the plurality of wireless devices, receiving a first message from a first neighbor node in the CoMP set, the first message including a channel quality parameter for another node (e.g. the first neighbor node) in the CoMP set indicative of a channel quality between the other node and the plurality of wireless devices, and send a second message to the first neighbor node in the CoMP set, the second message identifying the coordination node elected by the node based on the channel quality parameters for the node and the other node.

  • Patent number: 10397308
Abstract: Systems and methods for file transfer by mobile user collaboration are provided. In some embodiments, a method of operation of a first wireless device for uploading a data file as multiple pieces to a destination network node in a wireless communications network includes dividing the data file into the multiple pieces; sending one or more pieces of the multiple pieces to one or more second wireless devices to be uploaded to the destination network node; and uploading one or more pieces via a Coordinated Multi-Point (CoMP) set of cooperating nodes in the wireless communication network. In this way, the first wireless device may be able to upload the data file to the destination network node faster than if the first wireless device uploads the entire date file directly.

  • Patent number: 10270495
Abstract: Various methods, devices and nodes in a wireless system are disclosed for efficiently transferring files (both uploads and downloads) between a wireless device and a network node in a Coordinated Multipoint (CoMP) environment. According to a broad aspect, an upload request message is sent from the wireless device to the cooperating nodes in the CoMP set for uploading the data file to the network node, and based on an upload grant from at least one cooperating node, a plurality of piece messages are sent to the cooperating nodes for transmission to the network node, each piece message containing a particular piece of the data file. In yet another broad aspect, both a coordinating node and non-coordinating nodes in the CoMP set are configured to receive piece messages. Non-coordinating nodes that receive piece messages send acknowledgement messages to the coordinating node indicating which pieces have been received.

  • Patent number: 10042852
Abstract: Systems and methods for interference and/or power reduction for multiple relay pairs using cooperative beamforming are provided. A method of operation of a network node in a cellular communications system includes determining beamforming weights for multiple subchannels for each of multiple relay nodes such that a parameter is minimized. The parameter is a maximum per subchannel interference and/or per relay power usage. Determining the beamforming weights includes determining a dual problem of the minimization of the parameter where a solution maximizing the dual problem will minimize the parameter; reformulating the dual problem into a semidefinite programming (SDP) problem; and determining if signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) constraints are active. If the SNR constraints are all active, the method includes determining optimal beamforming weights a first way and if the SNR constraints are not all active, determining optimal beamforming weights a second way.

  • Patent number: 9571169
Abstract: Idle mobile devices are used as cooperating devices to support coordinated multipoint transmission and reception for uplink and downlink communications between a primary mobile device and its serving base station. For uplink communications, the cooperating mobile devices receive the uplink transmission from the primary mobile device and retransmit the received data signal to the serving base station for the primary mobile device. For downlink communications, the cooperating mobile devices receive the downlink transmission from the serving base station and retransmit the received data signal to the primary mobile device.
