  • Patent number: 8982007
Abstract: A transfer unit for transferring a radio frequency signal between a classical antenna tuner and an antenna where the transfer unit comprises a switch for alternatively selecting a first direct route for the radio frequency signal between the tuner and the antenna or a second route via a reactive element; said reactive element comprising a variable serial capacitance and a shunt inductance connected to system earth; and where a control unit controls the switch and is adapted to select the first route when the frequency is above a predetermined value and otherwise select the second route. The variable serial capacitance comprises a set of capacitors organized as a set of binary weighted parallel capacitance values, and the transfer unit further comprises switches to engage or disengage each capacitor from the reactive element to increase or decrease the resulting capacitance as the radio frequency is decreased or increased.

  • Patent number: 7363777
Abstract: A convection compatible closed cassette and method are described herein where the closed cassette is used to heat treat (compact) one or more glass sheets in a uniform manner and in a clean environment. In the preferred embodiment, the closed cassette includes multiple enclosed sections that are supported by a mounting structure in a manner where there is an open passageway between the major surfaces of each pair of the supported enclosed sections. And, each enclosed section is designed to hold and support multiple glass sheets in a manner where there is a space between the major surfaces of each pair of the supported glass sheets. In operation, the closed cassette is placed into an oven (e.g., lehr, batch kiln) so that hot/cold unfiltered air can flow across the major surfaces of each enclosed section and uniformly heat/cool the enclosed glass sheets.

  • Patent number: 7236353
Abstract: An instrument enclosure apparatus has a housing with a sidewall and a pair of retaining posts disposed within the housing and adjacent the sidewall, the retaining posts in combination with the sidewall defining a pair of opposing channels for slidably receiving a complementarily shaped insert part. Vents may be disposed along the sidewall of the housing, and the insert part assists in providing adaptable air flow management design.

  • Publication number: 20050200552
Abstract: The invention concerns a passive tunable broadband antenna. The antenna radiating element consists of stacked toroids (T) connected in series, means (a, c) being provided for shorting the toroids individually and at will, and means (b, d) being provided for interrupting the connection between any two successive toroids. The invention is particularly applicable to the 30-412 MHz operating range.

  • Patent number: 5147436
Abstract: This invention contemplates a near net-shape method of making thin glass-ceramic articles possessing substantially uniform thickness and parallel opposing surfaces comprising the steps of: (a) heating the receiving and opposing molding surfaces of a mold to predetermined different temperatures; (b) bringing the receiving and opposing molding surfaces of the mold into close proximity to each other to press a delivered charge of molten glass to fill said mold, while thermally providing and maintaining a substantially parallel fit between the receiving and opposing surfaces of the mold, to achieve substantially uniform thickness in the pressed charge, (c) pressing the glass charge for a time sufficient to remove enough heat from the glass charge that the temperatures of the molding surfaces and the glass article surfaces are all nearly at equilibrium, wherein the press time and mold temperature differential combine to result in symmetric heat removal thereby causing all the aforementioned temperatures to reach e
