Abstract: There is described a networked electronic trading system in which an administration server approves each trade of electronic data corresponding to a copyright-protected work between clients of the networked electronic trading system. The administration server has a database which stores information for a plurality of electronic data files, the information for each electronic data file including a list identifying registered traders of the electronic data files. The administration server processes transaction request information identifying a buyer, a seller and an electronic data file. The administration server approves the sale of the identified electronic data file by the seller to the buyer at least partially in dependence upon if the seller is identified in the registered traders list for the electronic data file. If the transaction is approved, the administration server adds information identifying the buyer to the registered traders list for the electronic data file.
