  • Patent number: 4315426
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are disclosed for detecting slippery road conditions directly from a moving vehicle. A special probe is momentarily lowered to the road surface from the moving vehicle. A coefficient of friction is determined by ratio of the verticle and friction forces. A display provides the operator with a proper indication of roadway conditions.

  • Patent number: 4258929
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are disclosed for reducing spray from wheeled vehicles operating on wet roadways. Reduction is achieved by decreasing lateral airflow by the use of slanted or curved mud flaps and the addition of a streamlined air deflector. Water droplets thrown by wheels are caught in grooved surfaces which prevent further atomization and dispersal.
