Abstract: A paper and coating composition for use in gravure printing. The paper is coated with the composition which includes a pigment containing a layer lattice silicate which has a relatively narrow range of particle size distribution compared with pigments of conventional paper coating compositions, and which includes not more than 5%, by weight, of particles which have an equivalent spherical diameter of less than 0.25 microns. Gravure printing utilizing such paper gives good results even when the coating weight of the composition is relatively low. Furthermore, good results can be achieved when the composition includes a significant proportion of relatively coarse particles.
