  • Publication number: 20130105469
Abstract: The reactive waste deactivation facility is designed to destroy explosives, propellants, and manufactured munitions items. The facility includes a plurality of armored deactivation bays. Two configurations can be used for these bays: a batch loading vertical bay and a continuous feed horizontal rotary bay. The armored deactivation bays are all enclosed within a common expansion chamber that is designed to collect waste gasses, dusts and residual wastes resulting from the deactivation of wastes that take place in the plurality of bays. The facility uses an electric induction heating coil for each bay to start the reactions. The facility may also include remotely operable waste feeding systems A waste collection and removal system is also provided which permits removal of residues from the individual reaction bays.

  • Patent number: 6431094
Abstract: The reactive waste deactivation facility includes a plurality of deactivation bays each being adapted to accommodate a different type or reactive waste which is to be deactivated therein. The deactivation bays are all enclosed within a common expansion chamber that is designed to collect waste gasses and other wastes resulting from the deactivations that take place in the plurality of bays. In addition, an air pollution control system is provided for cooling and treating the waste gasses before they are vented to the atmosphere. The facility may also include a remotely operable waste feeding system for enabling an operator to safely feed or charge each of the bays. A waste collection and removal system is also provided, which includes an individual, remotely operable, releaseable floor connected to each of the bays.

  • Patent number: 5741465
Abstract: A reactive waste deactivation facility capable of continuously processing a wide spectrum of hazardous waste includes a building having an outer perimeter defined by a plurality of deactivation bays each including means for deactivating hazardous wastes. One or more expansion chambers are surrounded by the plurality of bays and are commonly connected to an air pollution control system. The deactivation bays are connected with the expansion chamber by means of plurality of expansion ducts each having closable exhaust ports therein such that each inactive deactivation bay may be isolated from the expansion chamber when one active bay is in operation. A computer control system provides for sequencing of operation of said deactivation means in the plurality of bays, as well as among other things, controlling the exhaust ports, to effect continuous processing of hazardous wastes in order to provide a selected output of emission gases to said expansion chamber and air pollution control system.
