    Abstract: A protective barrier for a stairway includes a yieldable core and a cover that encloses the core. A plurality of flaps extend from the cover. A plurality of fasteners extend through the flaps and secure the cover and the core to the stairway. Each flap may have a reinforcement layer placed therein. Eyelets may be spaced along the flap to receive the fasteners therein. When the protective barrier is mounted, the barrier may extend above the riser to which the protective barrier is mounted.
