The dock management server generates a work assignment based on a first location for an item and a final location for the item, transmits the first work assignment to the mobile computing device, receives a location of the mobile computing device, and associates the location of the mobile computing device with a current location of the item. The work assignment includes instructions to move the item from the first location to a second location. The second location may be a temporary holding area between the first location and the final location. Methods for assigning dock doors to arriving transportation vehicles are also disclosed.

The method further includes analyzing costs of a relocation site based upon shipping costs on a per-service area basis. The costs of a relocation site are also analyzed based upon pickup costing and delivery costing on a per-service area basis. The costs of a relocation site are additionally analyzed based upon adjusted costs for the current terminal. The method additionally includes outputting current and change-site costing data.
