Publication number: 20150184594Abstract: A system includes a gas turbine comprising a compressor section, combustor section, and a turbine section. The system further includes a first fuel line and a second fuel line coupled to the gas turbine. The system also includes a feed compressor disposed along the first fuel line upstream of the gas turbine. The feed compressor is configured to pressurize the first fuel provided to the gas turbine. Further, the system includes fuel flow maintenance system configured to provide a pressurized fuel to the first fuel line upstream of the feed compressor in response to an interruption in a flow of the first fuel along the first fuel line to the gas turbine that triggers a transition from the first fuel in the first fuel line to the second fuel in the second fuel line.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 31, 2013Publication date: July 2, 2015Applicant: GENERAL ELECTRIC COMPANYInventors: Christopher Lavern Stammen, Huan Van Ho, Ronald Frederick Tyree, Christopher Don Kelbert

Patent number: 8992640Abstract: The disclosed embodiments include systems for using an expander. In a first embodiment, a system includes a flow path and a gasification section disposed along the flow path. The gasification section is configured to convert a feedstock into a syngas. The system also includes a scrubber disposed directly downstream of the gasification section and configured to filter the syngas. The system also includes a first expander disposed along the flow path directly downstream from the scrubber and configured to expand the syngas. The syngas comprises an untreated syngas.Type: GrantFiled: February 7, 2011Date of Patent: March 31, 2015Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventors: Khodaram Rustom Khosravian, Ronald Frederick Tyree, Patrick Joseph McKenna

Patent number: 8959885Abstract: A heat recovery system for use with a gasification system is provided. One system includes a gasification system and an organic Rankine cycle system coupled to the gasification system. The organic Rankine cycle system is configured to receive heated fluid from the gasification system and to deliver cooled fluid to the gasification system. The organic Rankine cycle system is configured to produce power by converting heat energy in the heated fluid.Type: GrantFiled: August 22, 2011Date of Patent: February 24, 2015Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventors: Ganesh Prasadh Kidambi, Atul Kumar Vij, Priyanandini Balasubramanian, Ronald Frederick Tyree

Patent number: 8845770Abstract: A gasification system including a gasifier, a feed injector, and a fuel feed system that includes a first feed line, a second feed line, and a controller that includes a processor. The processor is programmed to enable the first feed line to supply a fuel gas into the feed injector, enable the second feed line to supply oxygen into the feed injector, receive instructions to add a slurry to the gasifier, prevent the first feed line from supplying the fuel gas into the feed injector, enable the first feed line to supply the slurry into the feed injector, enable the second feed line to simultaneously supply the oxygen and the inert gas into the feed injector, and prevent the second feed line from supplying the inert gas into the feed injector.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 2011Date of Patent: September 30, 2014Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventors: Ronald Frederick Tyree, Huan Van Ho

Publication number: 20130269251Abstract: A system including a feedstock supply system that includes a first pump configured to supply a first feedstock to a first gasifier along a first supply conduit, a second pump configured to supply a second feedstock to the first gasifier along a second supply conduit, and a pressure vessel disposed along a first conduit loop. The feedstock supply system is configured to circulate the first feedstock through the first conduit loop to raise a first pressure of the first feedstock to a first threshold pressure in the pressure vessel. The feedstock supply system is also configured to control a first transition from the second pump to the first pump after the first pressure reaches the first threshold pressure. The first transition includes a first change from the second feedstock to the first feedstock for supply to the first gasifier.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 17, 2012Publication date: October 17, 2013Applicant: GENERAL ELECTRIC COMPANYInventors: Ronald Frederick Tyree, Chris Joseph Villa

Patent number: 5904879Abstract: An integrated liquefaction and gasification process converts bulk particulate halogen-containing waste plastic materials with minimal particle size reduction into a synthesis gas and a non-leachable, vitreous environmentally nontoxic slag. The process involves melting and cracking bulk particulate halogen-containing waste plastic material to form a lower boiling point, lower molecular weight halogen-containing oil composition which then undergoes partial oxidation in a quench gasifier to produce a synthesis gas. Any hazardous gases, liquids or solids that are produced can be purified into commercially valuable byproducts or recycled to the process, which does not release hazardous materials to the environment.Type: GrantFiled: August 8, 1997Date of Patent: May 18, 1999Assignee: Texaco IncInventors: John Duckett Winter, Paul Ellis Brickhouse, Ronald Frederick Tyree, John S.
