  • Publication number: 20040235388
Abstract: A toy is provided with a platform adapted to move along a playing surface, a bumper supported thereby and projecting beyond the peripheral edge, and a target disposed thereon. The platform may be adapted to float or slide across a game playing surface, or include wheels or casters disposed thereon to engage and roll about the playing surface. The platform may be made of wood, plastic, or a combination thereof, and could be a floor scooter. The bumper is supported by the platform and may be an inflatable tube or a piece of foam, both of which are impact absorbing and capable of reducing risk of injury either to the toy's users or to the surrounding game area. The target may be posts, buckets, hoops, or domes for playing a variety of hand-toss games or be used as the object of the game such as hockey puck.

  • Patent number: 6113507
Abstract: A sports net adapted to be quickly attached to and detached from a sports goal frame such as a portable frame for soccer goal or a street hockey goal, the frame having tubular members and including a first U-shaped upright portion for forming a goal mouth with a crossbar and side posts, and a second U-shaped portion connected to the upright frame portion and adapted to lie on a horizontal surface, and oblique portions interconnecting the upright and horizontal frame portions. An elastic cord element is incorporated in the outer perimeter of the generally rectangular net and the cord constricts the perimeter and forms an expandable opening. The net can be draped over the goal frame and properly aligned with the frame with the aid of colored indicia attached to the net, and the perimeter tucked around the frame such that it resiliently embraces the insides of the frame members of the first and second portions so that the net is releasably secured to the frame.

  • Patent number: 5906552
Abstract: Disclosed is a collapsible assembly for adjustably supporting a net for pitching back, rebounding, or otherwise returning various types of game balls, the assembly including first and second U-shaped stand members, each having a crossbar and a pair of spaced apart leg elements, the cross bar being adapted for engaging a horizontal surface such as a floor or the ground, and the upper ends of the leg elements mounted to a pair of hub plates from which the leg elements diverge at a substantial angle to form a stand. An inverted U-shaped net support member has its lower ends connected to the hub plates by way of mechanism that allows the support member to be angularly adjusted about a horizontal axis and releasably locked at a chosen orientation.

  • Patent number: 5505443
Abstract: Disclosed is a combination ball-hitting practice and ball-pitch-back apparatus, having a vertical support pole with a lower end designed for anchoring the pole to the ground to support it upright, and including a ball-tee support member that has one end connected to the support pole for vertical adjustment therealong, its opposite end being structured to releasably support a ball for striking. An extension arm is telescopically mounted in the upper end of the support pole, and a ball-rebounding net and a tethered ball are mounted to a support frame which is adjustably connected to the upper end of the extension arm.

  • Patent number: 5431411
Abstract: Disclosed is a portable sports goal and pitch back assembly of tubular construction including a U-shaped main, generally upright frame with a horizontal top bar and two side posts, and a foot member that extends rearwardly at a right angle from the lower end of each side post. There is also a ground-engaging U-shaped base frame that includes a rear cross member and a pair of laterally spaced side members with front ends that connect to the rear ends of the foot members by way of adjustable, releasably lockable hinge joints that are used to lock the main frame at a desired inclination. In one configuration of the assembly, the main frame is vertical, and a net is mounted about the peripheries of the frames, and the assembly serves as a sports goal. The assembly is adjustable to another configuration for use as a pitch back device, by substantially inclining the main frame, and mounting a tensioned rebound net across the face of the inclined frame.
