Abstract: A communication protocol comprising a data packet, a control byte, and a check sum byte. The data packet having a plurality of data words wherein each data word comprises a first byte and a second byte. The control byte having a first address bit, a second address bit, and a third address bit for identifying an address of a slave controller, a type bit following the first address bit, the second address bit, and the third address bit for identifying a data type within said data packet, a direction bit following the type bit for identifying a source of the data frame, a content bit following the direction bit for identifying whether said data packet comprises data, a state bit following the content bit for identifying a state of a master controller, and a run/stop bit following the state bit for identifying a run/stop state of the master controller. The protocol comprises a check sum byte to ensure correct transmission of the data packet and control byte.

Abstract: A process for causing a myopic shift in the vision of a patient's eye, in which the patient's eye includes a cornea includes the step of instilling a bio-compatible material to the cornea of the eye, in which the bio-compatible material includes bio-compatible molecules and the cornea has a first composite refractive index. In addition, the bio-compatible molecules alter the first composite refractive index to a second composite refractive index.

Abstract: A mode-selectable communications system which commands one or more remote modules from a controller unit. The controller unit issues a command signal having an address and major communications mode command. Each remote module includes a major mode identifier for receiving the command signal from the control unit through a communications link. The major mode identifier identifies an address pertaining to the module and identifies a major communications mode for that module as a command response mode or a time slot mode. The module implements a task indicated by the command mode and selects a time slot response based on the time slot mode. A time slot unique to that module is determined and the module communicates with the control unit through the communications link during that time slot.

Abstract: A tubular water pipe embodying an electrical heating element in its base operable by use of a momentary on/off switch forming a part thereof and divided into separate chambers. The lower chamber collects smoke of a burning product such as tobacco and the upper chamber containing water cools the smoke when drawn therethrough by the smoker.
