    Abstract: The present invention relates to a formulation comprising an oxidatively curable alkyd-based resin and a chelating agent. More particularly, the formulation is essentially absent an amount of cations selected from the group consisting of manganese, iron, cobalt, vanadium and copper ions, which ions, if present in the formulation, will form together with the chelant a metal drier capable of accelerating oxidative curing. The invention also provides a method of making the formulation and a method of contacting the formulation with a composition comprising transition metal ions so as to provide a composition comprising an oxidatively curable alkyd-based resin and a complex of the transition metal ion and the chelating agent.
