  • Patent number: 4206336
Abstract: A cooking surface serving as a cook top or stove for use in cooking food can be constructed utilizing a glass support member. In the disclosed structure an induction heating coil is mounted on the undersurface of the support member. An electrically powered graphic display is also mounted on the undersurface of the support member so that this display is visible from above the support member. The support member also carries the parts of two different touch controls which are responsive to the presence of a part of a hand of an individual so as to provide an output signal. What may be referred to as an "electronic package" for controlling the operation of the coil and of the graphic display in synchronism with one another is connected to the parts of the touch controls mounted on the support member and is connected to both the coil and the graphic display. The touch controls can be individually operated so as to either increase or decrease the amount of current supplied to the coil.

  • Patent number: 4191875
Abstract: A cooking apparatus employing induction heating is normally constructed so as to utilize a metal housing supporting a cook top upon which there is located at least one induction heating coil. The housing normally contains an electronic "package" for use in supplying power to the coil or coils used and a fan for circulating air through the housing so as to maintain the temperature of the electronic components employed sufficiently low that they will not be damaged by heat. In the disclosed apparatus a thermistor is mounted on the housing adjacent to the wires connecting the electronic components to the heating coil or coils used. This thermistor is used to control the flow of current through an SCR or a triac acting as a switch in a circuit containing the fan motor.

  • Patent number: 4181846
Abstract: A rotary heating apparatus utilizing induction heating can be constructed so as to utilize a rotary drum at least the periphery of which is formed of material capable of being heated by magnetic induction. An induction heating coil is located sufficiently close to at least part of the periphery of the drum so as to cause heating of at least part of the periphery of the drum as the apparatus is operated. The drum is rotatably mounted and a motor is provided for rotating the drum. During the operation of the apparatus heat will be distributed within the interior of the drum as a result of radiation and conduction from the drum and also as the result of the movement of the contents including air and any other material present within the interior of the drum as a result of rotation of the drum.
