Patent number: 11925408Abstract: A tool assembly for use with an electrosurgical device for cutting tissue includes a base portion, a return lead, an electrical insulator, a center pin, and an active lead. The center pin extends from the base portion and through a lumen of the electrical insulator. The active lead is securely fixed to the base portion and extends between the base portion and a distal portion of the center pin such that a portion of the active lead extends around the distal portion of the center pin and first and second segments of the active lead are spaced apart from the return lead. Upon activation, electrosurgical energy is transmitted from the active lead through tissue to the return lead to cut tissue in contact with the active lead.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 2022Date of Patent: March 12, 2024Assignee: Covidien LPInventors: Scott J. Patent number: 6303303Abstract: Normalization of experimental fragment patterns for nucleic acid polymers having putatively known sequences starts with obtaining at least one raw fragment pattern for the experimental sample. The raw fragment pattern represents the positions of a selected nucleic acid base within the polymer as a function of migration time or distance. This raw fragment pattern is conditioned using conventional baseline correction and noise reduction technique to yield a clean fragment pattern. The clean fragment pattern is then evaluated to determine one or more “normalization coefficients.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 1998Date of Patent: October 16, 2001Assignee: Visible Genetics IncInventors: Ronald J. Green, Vrijmoed Chi, Rodney D. Gilchrist, Gregory Dee, John K. Stevens

Patent number: 5834189Abstract: The allelic type of a polymorphic genetic locus in a sample is identified by first combining the sample with a sequencing reaction mixture containing a polymerase, nucleotide feedstocks, one type of chain terminating nucleotide and a sequencing primer to form a plurality of oligonucleotide fragments of differing lengths, and then evaluating the length of the oligonucleotide fragments. As in a standard sequencing procedure, the lengths of the fragments indicate the positions of the type of base corresponding to the chain terminating nucleotide in the extended primer. Instead of performing and evaluating four concurrent reactions, one for each type of chain terminating nucleotide, however, the sample is concurrently combined with at most three, and preferably only one, sequencing reaction mixtures containing different types of chain terminating nucleotides. The information obtained from this test is evaluated prior to performing any additional tests on the sample.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 1995Date of Patent: November 10, 1998Assignee: Visible Genetics Inc.Inventors: John K. Stevens, James M. Dunn, James Leushner, Ronald J. Green

Patent number: 5772199Abstract: An apparatus for serially feeding envelopes along a longitudinal path of travel and which includes a support table, an envelope feeder mounted to the support table for feeding envelopes individually from the bottom of a vertical stack of envelopes in a lateral direction to an envelope receiving position on the table, and an envelope conveying system for feeding the envelopes from the envelope receiving position along a longitudinal path of travel and through a plurality of processing stations, such as a flap opening station and a product insertion station. The feeder is directly connected to a fixed envelope stop on the table by an adjustable linkage so as to define the envelope receiving position between the stop and the feeder, and so that the lateral position of the feeder may be readily adjusted on the table to change the dimension of the envelope receiving position and thereby accommodate envelopes of varying size.Type: GrantFiled: April 18, 1996Date of Patent: June 30, 1998Assignee: Streamfeeder, LLCInventor: Ronald J. Patent number: 5642877Abstract: A paper sheet feeding apparatus which includes a gate forming member positioned above the upper run of the sheet feeding belts and so as to define a nip therebetween. The gate forming member comprises a cylindrical roll having a plurality of annular grooves extending about the circumference thereof, and an elastomeric ring disposed in each of the grooves. The outer peripheral surface of the roll also includes a relief extending axially along the length thereof and positioned so as to oppose the nip, and the rings are sized so as to be exposed on the portion of the outer peripheral surface defined by the relief. In operation, the lowermost sheet is fed by the sheet feeding belts through the nip without engaging the exposed rings, and without significant frictional resistance, while the sheet immediately above the lowermost sheet engages the exposed rings and is retarded in its advance by its engagement with the rings.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 1996Date of Patent: July 1, 1997Inventor: Ronald J. Green

Patent number: 5590391Abstract: A process for reducing the concentration of fissionable uranium containing components of a feed material to below a target concentration level, the process having the steps of providing the feed material as an aqueous system of high-enriched uranyl nitrate hydrate (HE-UNH) wherein at least about 18% of the uranium therein is the .sup.235 U isotope, providing an aqueous dilution medium containing natural uranyl nitrate hydrate (NUNH) wherein at least about 90% of the uranium therein is the .sup.238 U isotope, forcing a diluent stream of the dilution medium through a jet pump to provide a suction region within the pump coextensive with the diluent stream, providing a feed fluid connection of the HE-UNH within the first vessel means with the suction region to cause a HE-UNH stream to flow into the suction region and intermix therein with the diluent stream to form a product stream of markedly reduced .sup.235 U concentration.Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 1995Date of Patent: December 31, 1996Assignee: Nuclear Fuel Services, Inc.Inventors: Norman E. Brandon, David R. Hopson, Ronald J. Green, James H. G. Grimaud, III, Timothy J. Heagle, Kerry D. Schutt

Patent number: 5244198Abstract: A sheet feeding apparatus is disclosed which includes a gate forming member composed of a pair of rolls disposed in a parallel, laterally adjacent relationship. The first roll defines the nip of the sheet feeding apparatus, and each of the rolls includes a plurality of annular grooves. The rolls are mounted with the annular grooves respectively aligned, and a ring of elastomeric material is mounted in each pair of aligned grooves so as to encompass the peripheral surfaces of the two rolls, and with and the grooves in the first roll being configured so that the rings are exposed at the nip. Upon rotation of the second roll, the rings may be moved with respect to the first roll, so that unworn portions of the rings may be moved to the nip.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 1992Date of Patent: September 14, 1993Inventor: Ronald J. Green

Patent number: 5143365Abstract: Disclosed is a sheet feeder device including means for supporting a generally vertical stack of sheets. The supporting means include endless belts having an upper belt run position to extend across the bottom of the stack of sheets. A stationary gate forming member is provided which is positioned above the upper run of the belts and adjacent the forward side of the stack to define a nip which forms a gap between the gate forming member and the upper run for permitting the lowermost sheet of the stack to pass forwardly from the stack through the nip. The gate forming member is a cylindrical roll defining a central axis and an outer peripheral surface which is concentric to the central axis. The roll has a groove extending axially along the length thereof. An elastomeric bar is disposed in the groove, and the bar has a coefficient of friction which is higher than that of the material of the roll. Also, the bar is sized so as to extend radially beyond the peripheral surface.Type: GrantFiled: January 2, 1991Date of Patent: September 1, 1992Inventor: Ronald J. Green
