  • Patent number: 6957291
Abstract: A hard disk drive based data archive system emulating a tape archive system includes a hot pluggable multi-drive magazine having a housing for holding a plurality of hard disk drives, each drive connected to receive power and data from the magazine in a controlled fashion, and at least one magazine receiving system for physically receiving the magazine and for thereupon providing power, data and control connections to the magazine, such that when the magazine is received within the magazine receiving system, the hard disk drives selectively receive power and data connections via the magazine and receiving system from a host computer. The magazine may be hot-disconnected from an active computing system environment and removed to an archive rack wherein each disk drive is periodically checked to ensure functionality and to provide some limited-bandwidth data retrieval functions via a network connection to the archive rack.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 29, 2001
Date of Patent: October 18, 2005
    Assignee: Quantum Corporation
Inventors: William G. Moon, Chris Dudte, Michael Cornwell, Ronald K. Scott, Kevin Daly
  • Patent number: 6601013
Abstract: The present invention is configured to determine the weight of a payload of a mobile machine. When the machine is in motion, a force characteristic of the machine is compared with a force characteristic threshold, or range. The payload determination is based upon the force characteristic comparison, and the pressures sensed in at least one of the struts.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 20, 2000
Date of Patent: July 29, 2003
    Assignee: Caterpillar Inc
Inventors: Kevin J. Lueschow, Ronald K. Scott, Joel L. Peterson

  • Patent number: 4141242
Abstract: A timing method and timing apparatus are provided for dynamically timing an apparatus. The timing method includes operating the apparatus to be timed, and generating a signal having a zero crossover portion, and generating a timing signal in response to the signal reaching the zero crossover portion. The timing apparatus receives the signal and generates the timing signal in response to the signal reaching the zero crossover portion.

  • Patent number: 4131014
Abstract: Dynamic timing indicating apparatus has comparing, zero-crossing detecting and automatic indicating apparatus. The comparing apparatus receives a first input signal and delivers an output signal in response to the input signal. The zero-crossing detection apparatus receives a second input signal which has a zero crossover portion and occurs in timed relation to the first input signal and delivers an output in response to the second input signal. The indicating apparatus automatically indicates the timed relation between the first and second input signals in response to the outputs of the comparing and zero-crossing detecting apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4130013
Abstract: A strain gauge transducer device externally mounted on a fuel line leading to a diesel engine and a circuit for developing engine timing signals from the transducer device output. The circuit includes a peak voltage detector to detect a peak signal from the transducer device output and a scaling potentiometer which attenuates the peak signal by a preset percentage to a level corresponding to the desired fuel pressure. A comparator compares the attenuated signal to the transducer device output and produces a timing signal when the latter is equal to or exceeds the former.
