  • Patent number: 6357678
Abstract: Particulate synthetic zeolite is micronized in a liquid organic medium to form a micronized zeolite product having an average (mean) particle size of about 2 microns or less and containing at least 90% by weight, based on the dry weight of the zeolite product, if isolated, of particles no larger than about 5 microns. Preferably, the micronized zeolite product has a mean particle size of 1 micron or less, and at least 90% by weight of the zeolite product, based on the dry weight of the zeolite product, if isolated, has a particle size of 2 microns or less. The liquid organic medium used is (a) inert or substantially inert, (b) devoid or substantially devoid of water, and (c) devoid of a dispersant.

  • Patent number: 4395351
Abstract: Polyether-based thickeners for aqueous systems, said polyethers having molecular weights of about 1000 to about 25,000 which are modified by reaction with at least one glycidyl ether having a carbon chain length of about 12 to about 18 carbon atoms, exhibit increased thickening efficiency in the presence of certain organic additives. These are ethoxylated phosphate esters or mixtures of said esters with water-soluble amines. The polyethers contain about 1 to about 20 percent by weight, based upon the weight of the liquid polyether, of a glycidyl ether. Polyether-based thickeners containing an ethoxylated phosphate ester, or said ester in admixture with a water-soluble amine, and thickened aqueous compositions are disclosed together with processes for the preparation of thickened aqueous systems. The polyether-based thickeners of the invention are particularly useful for thickening water or water-glycol mixtures which are useful as hydraulic fluids.

  • Patent number: 4354956
Abstract: New liquid thickeners for aqueous liquids are obtained by capping a liquid straight chain polyoxyalkylene compound derived from ethylene oxide or ethylene oxide and at least one other lower alkylene oxide by reacting said alkylene oxides with at least one active hydrogen-containing initiator having only one active hydrogen atom. The new thickeners are prepared at a molecular weight of about 1000 to about 25,000 utilizing an alpha-olefin oxide having a carbon chain of about 12 to about 18 aliphatic carbon atoms. Both block and heteric polyoxyalkylene compounds are useful. Alternatively, the new thickeners can be made by copolymerizing ethylene oxide or mixed lower alkylene oxides in the presence of said alpha-olefin oxide. The new thickeners exhibit an unexpected increase in viscosity in aqueous systems as compared with prior art liquid polyether thickening agents.
