  • Patent number: 6126622
Abstract: An elongate medical splint product is provided for being dispensed in lengths suitable for a given medical use. The splint product includes a multi-layer moisture-hardenable plaster substrate having first and second opposed major surfaces. A soft foam cushion envelopes the first major surface and opposed marginal portions of the second major surface of the substrate. A moisture absorbent panel overlies opposed marginal portions of the second major surface of the substrate and the cushion. First and second spaced-apart rows of stitches extend along the length of the splint product and through the marginal portions of the substrate, the foam cushion, and the panel to bind the substrate, cushion, and panel together. This forms a unitary bandaging product which can be dispensed, cut to length, and applied without further assembly.

  • Patent number: 5755678
Abstract: A medical bandaging product which includes a storage package formed of moisture-impervious material and sealable to prevent entry of moisture, with a medical material positioned in the storage package and sealed therein against entry of moisture until use. The medical material includes a substrate having a variable thickness with a relatively thick predetermined central area to provide rigidity, and relatively thin predetermined edge areas to provide less rigidity to the edge areas for ease in molding the medical material around to part to be bandaged. A reactive system is impregnated into or coated onto the substrate, the system remaining stable when maintained in substantially moisture-free conditions and hardening upon exposure to sufficient moisture to form a rigid, self supporting structure. A protective wrapping encloses the substrate along its length to provide a barrier between the substrate and the skin of a patient when the material is in use.

  • Patent number: 5415622
Abstract: A tubular cast product having an outer container formed of moisture-impervious material. A cast tube that is placed on and surrounds a body part. The cast tube includes a reactive system impregnated into or coated onto the tube. The cast tube also includes a narrow weakness zone along it length.

  • Patent number: 5409448
Abstract: A tubular cast assembly for immobilizing a body part includes an undercast protective sleeve for being placed on the body part and a cast tube for being placed on and surrounding the body part over the undercast protective sleeve. The undercast protective sleeve protects the body part against contact with the skin by the cast tube. The cast tube comprises a fabric tube knitted of fiberglass and a size suitable for the body part to be immobilized and a reactive system impregnated into or coated onto the fabric tube. The system remains stable when maintained in substantially moisture-free conditions and hardens upon exposure to sufficient moisture to form a rigid, light-weight self supporting tubular structure. Adjacent edges of the fabric tube along the length of the tube define a narrow weakness zone or zones therebetween to serve as a line along which the tube is severed along the length thereof in preparation for removal.
