  • Patent number: 5312283
Abstract: A set of similar interconnectable flexible toy construction blocks. Each block has three different attachment surfaces. Posts on a top surface connect within rims on a bottom surface for vertical stacking of the blocks. A projection on a front end connects within a complementally shaped receiver on a rear end for horizontal connecting of the blocks. An interior of the projection is complementally shaped to the posts on the top surface, allowing the front end of one block to connect to the top surface of another block. Each block has two directions of flexibility. Horizontal flexibility is provided by dividing the block into separate segments divided by gaps. Each gap is spanned by a thin web. The gaps can change shape when bending forces are applied, causing the block to flex horizontally. Vertical flexibility is provided by hollowing out each segment of the block through one surface, preferably the bottom.

  • Patent number: 5259803
Abstract: A construction toy formed from a plurality of building blocks. A primary form of building block is formed as a wafer-shaped rectangle having top and bottom surfaces formed of complemental interconnectable arrays of posts or rectangular vanes on a top surface and parallel-walled channels on a bottom surface allowing the blocks to stack and lock top-to-bottom. The sides of the primary building blocks have complemental prominences and orifices or projections and grooves which can connect together allowing the blocks to stack side-to-side. Orifices are also located in a portion of the top surface, usable in any way the orifices of the side surfaces are usable. A secondary form of building block is a round wafer-shaped block with beveled gear teeth along a side wall of the block. The secondary block has posts on a top surface and vanes, similar to the primary blocks, and has a hub on a bottom surface. The hub is rotationally receivable within the orifices of the primary blocks.

  • Patent number: 5209693
Abstract: Toy building blocks of the type having an array of sockets on one principal face and a matching array of projections on the opposite face that can be wedged into the sockets of another block are also joinable in an end to end relationship which enables lateral pivoting of one block in either direction relative to the block with which it is linked. In the preferred form, the opposite ends of the blocks are linkable to still other blocks in a manner which enables pivoting or flexing in an orthogonal direction. This enables assembly of interlocking blocks into a greater variety of different constructions and enables pivoting of linked portions of an assembled construction in a greater number of different directions.

  • Patent number: 5104345
Abstract: A construction toy configured as a humanoid figurine formed from: a torso having a front wall and a rear wall, a head area, downwardly extending legs and outwardly extending arms. The torso and its front and rear walls provide first and second attachment surfaces which are complementally formed mirror images, one of the other so as to provide connecting elements when the figurines are to be stacked and interconnected. Because the nature of the attachment surfaces is neutral with respect to its center, the connecting elements can also allow attachment to an adjacent stack of figurines in a rotational pattern. The connecting elements also allows quadrans of the torso to be stacked forming imbrications. The head has a profile provided with a first fastening elements for interconnection with either the second attachment surface or other fastening elements. Each leg is formed from two pieces of planar stock spaced one from the other defining a groove. The groove defines a second fastening elements.

  • Patent number: 5022885
Abstract: A construction toy formed from a plurality of building blocks. Each building block is formed with a multiplicity of facets defining the exterior and each facet is provided with structure for attachment to another facet. Some facets are embodied as including a plurality of radially extending vanes, others are complementally formed recesses. Preferably these recesses and vanes are disposed on top and bottom walls of a building block, defining two of the facets. A periphery circumscribes the top and bottom walls and defines a plurality of additional facets. This periphery is provided with further structure for interconnection with other facets on the block. Some peripheries are provided with projections, others with channels. The projections can be received not only in the channels, but also within recesses on the bottom walls. The channels not only can receive projections, but also can receive the vanes on the top wall of the block.

  • Patent number: 4789369
Abstract: A toy building block construction includes a lower portion having a generally rectangular solid configuration and an integral upper portion extending therefrom. Extending outwardly from one end of the lower portion are two pair of hinge arms, each pair of arms being spaced apart in laterally opposed, parallel fashion. Each hinge arm includes a detent knob formed on the interior surface thereof confronting the paired, opposing arm. A third pair of identical hinge arms extends upwardly from the top of the upper portion. The end of the lower portion opposed to the one end includes two pair of detent recesses formed in laterally spaced fashion in opposed edges of the lower portion, each detent recess including a detent depression formed therein. Each detent recess is adapted to receive a hinge arm of an adjacent, similar block, with the detent knob of the arm engaged in the detent depression in freely pivoting fashion.

  • Patent number: 4764144
Abstract: Rotatable assemblies for building blocks include a wheel having a peripheral annular cylindrical surface adapted to support building blocks joined thereabout in hinged, end to end fashion, the wheel including annular flanges extending radially outwardly and spaced axially to retain the blocks therebetween. A pivot shaft extends fixedly from a first end surface of the wheel, and is disposed coaxially therewith. The opposed, second end surface includes a coaxially disposed bore dimensioned to receive a pivot shaft of another, similar wheel. A plurality of cylindrical interconnection projections extend from the second end face and are arrayed symmetrically about the bore. A plurality of socket-like interconnection receptacles are formed in the second end face and interspersed with the cylindrical projections. The first end face also includes a like plurality of interconnection receptacles disposed to engage the cylindrical projections of another like-formed wheel for stackable interconnection therebetween.
