  • Patent number: 5204082
Abstract: A method of making high purity sulfur dioxide by submerged combustion is disclosed. Sulfur is combusted in a first liquid pool with an oxygen-containing gas and the vapor effluent is removed and cooled in a first cooling zone to a temperature above approximately 600.degree. F. The condensed sulfur is separated as liquid sulfur from the vapor in the cooled effluent and passed back to the reactor as the supply of liquid sulfur for conversion to sulfur dioxide.
    Type: Grant

    Assignee: C.F. Braun Inc.
    Inventor: Ronald L. Schendel
  • Patent number: 4778443
Abstract: An improved system and method of gas and petroleum production from locations such as offshore facilities in which oily water and/or wet oil or an oil/water mixture is fed to a Podbielniak type centrifugal liquid/liquid contactor for separation and purification of the oil and water phases.

    Assignee: Fluor Corporation
Inventors: Charles D. Sands, Ronald L. Schendel
  • Patent number: 4374657
Abstract: A process of separating acid gases consisting of carbon dioxide and/or hydrogen sulfide from hydrocarbons is disclosed. Methane is first separated from the hydrocarbon stream to produce a substantially methane free hydrocarbon stream containing acid gases, ethane and heavier hydrocarbon components. The substantially methane free hydrocarbon stream is thereafter passed through a semipermeable membrane system to separate the acid gases from the ethane and heavier hydrocarbon components.
