  • Patent number: 10697410
Abstract: A marine propulsion system includes an internal combustion engine; a fuel reservoir; a pump that pumps fuel from the fuel reservoir to the internal combustion engine; and a fuel filter that filters the fuel. The fuel filter includes a canister and a fuel inlet that conveys the fuel adjacent to cylindrical sidewalls of the canister so that the fuel immediately spirally flows around and down the cylindrical sidewalls under centrifugal force and under force of gravity, and then is drawn radially inwardly through a filter element by the pump. A fuel outlet extends at least partially along a center axis of the canister and discharges the fuel from the canister. A drain is located at the bottom of the canister and configured to drain water that separates from the fuel as the fuel flows around and down the cylindrical sidewalls.

  • Patent number: 6463902
Abstract: An air supply system for a marine engine includes an air duct, or sound attenuator cavity, that receives air through a plurality of inlets and directs air to an outlet of the air duct disposed over a throttle body of an air intake manifold. An air filter assembly is shaped to be attached to a wall of the air duct with a filter medium portion extending into the cavity of the air duct and an outlet port or nipple, extending out of the air duct. A compressor is connected in fluid communication with the outlet port of the air filter assembly through the use of a flexible tube, such as a rubber hose, in order to provide filtered air to the compressor. The air filter assembly is easily removed for inspection and/or replacement and is located with its filter medium within the protective housing of the air duct.

  • Patent number: 5105334
Abstract: An electrical component housing for the powerhead of an outboard motor in which the housing is mounted to the engine between oppositely slanted cylinder banks, which provide a V-shaped engine. The engine is mounted to an adaptor plate, and the electrical component housing is interconnected with the adaptor plate through projections provided on the housing which are received within recesses formed in the adaptor plate. Mounting flanges are provided at the upper portion of the electrical component housing, and are secured in mounting surfaces associated with the engine.
