  • Patent number: 5549538
Abstract: A process for manufacturing a multi-ply square bottom bag having a front wall, a back wall, a pair of gusseted side walls, each of which join to said front and back walls. There is also formed a gusseted square bottom panel having spaced but substantially parallel gusset edges and said bottom is joined to the front, back and side walls. The bag is produced by providing a web of inner ply material and a web of outer ply material, adhesively joining said webs into a composite and forming said bag from said joined webs. The improvement relates to forming a first flap in the inner web by cutting the web so as to form a plurality of free edges and a hinge line for said flap. The hinge line is connected to the free edges so that the free edges and hinge line define the flap. Thereafter joining the inner and outer webs to form the composite web.

  • Patent number: 5407279
Abstract: A multi-ply square bottom bag having a front wall, a back wall, a pair of gusseted side walls, each joining a front and a back panel, and a folded and gusseted bottom panel defining a pair of interior spaced gusset edges extending between the front and back panels with the edges being substantially parallel to each other and the bottom panel joining the front, back and side panels. The multi-ply bag has an inner ply and an outer ply. The inner ply defines a first flap adapted to be positioned to engage said bottom panel and overlie at least a first portion of said gusset edges.

  • Patent number: 5335996
Abstract: A bag for carrying and exposing a food item, usually of the hamburger-type sold at fast-food or convenience stores. The bag includes front, back and gusseted side panels which are interconnected and form a V-shaped closed end and an open end. A pair of lines of weakness or perforations are provided in the bag, one along the junction of each side panel and the front panel and extending between the open and closed ends. A pair of slits, one member associated with each line of perforation and extending from the bag open end to the respective perforation line. A second set of slits can be provided at open end of each of the non-perforated side panel/back panel junctions can be provided. The bag having a width or the distance between the lines of perforations being substantially equal to the width of the front panel. Thus the bag can be opened by tearing along the perforations so as to expose the bag interior and an item therein for removal, application of condiments, and/or reuse of the bag.

  • Patent number: 4991980
Abstract: There is disclosed herein a bag which is constructed to form a primary loading compartment and an auxiliary load-carrying or promotional-item-carrying pocket. The bag includes front, back, side and bottom panels and a compartment forming partition panel. The partition panel is secured to the front panel so as to define primary and auxiliary load-carrying compartments. The auxiliary compartment is formed by the front panel and partition panel. The front panel may be apertured and overlaid with a transparent film so as to form a window. The partition is adhered to the front panel so as to form a pocket in which the contents are positioned for viewing through the window.

  • Patent number: 4863287
Abstract: A paper bag having a barrier material and a method of coating paper for use in making such a paper bag. The inventive method comprises of the steps of: continuously removing in a direction of travel a strip of paper from a source of paper at a predetermined speed; masking with a liquid impervious mask at least one longitudinal portion of the strip of paper in the direction of travel; routing the strip of paper and the mask through a bath of liquid barrier material, the liquid barrier material substantially saturating the strip of paper except for the masked portion; removing the mask from the strip of paper after moving it out of the liquid barrier material; and forming a selected length of the strip of paper into the bag. The paper bag has at least a front side and a back side each having at least one longitudinal portion extending the length of the bag. The longitudinal portion has a width less than the width of the front and back sides.
