  • Publication number: 20050159755
Abstract: A periosteal distraction osteogenesis method and apparatus uses a sheet member for covering a surface of living bone that is, in turn, covered by soft periosteal tissue. The sheet member is under the soft tissue and over an area where bone growth outwardly and normally from the bone surface is desired. The method and apparatus requires distracting the sheet member away from the portion of the bone surface at which bone growth is desired, for causing growth of the bone outwardly and normally from the bone surface.

Abstract: A periosteal distraction osteogenesis method and apparatus uses a sheet member for covering a surface of living bone that is, in turn, covered by soft tissue. The sheet member is under the soft tissue and over an area where bone growth outwardly and normally to the bone surface is desired. An attractor member adapted to magnetically attract the sheet member for exerting a pulling force on the sheet member in a direction outwardly and normally of the bone surface, is secured at an outwardly spaced location from the sheet member for causing growth of bone outwardly and normally to the bone surface.

  • Patent number: 5000684
Abstract: An apparatus and method for the supra and subgingival cleaning of teeth comprises and handle with a driving mechanism for reciprocally rotating a tapered cleaning tip about its longitudinal axis. A tuft or other scrubbing mechanism is provided on the outer circumference of the tip. The tip includes circumferentially disposed flutes which can be used to receive and dispense medication to the subgingival area. The tip is introduced into the gap between the gum and the tooth for scrubbing the outer surfaces of the tooth near and under the gum line. This effectively disrupts any bacteria plaque in these areas to clean the tooth.
