  • Patent number: 5930577
Abstract: Registering a first image on a first side of a substrate with a second image on a second side. A motor driven document transport advances a substrate to a transfer station that transfers the first image onto the substrate. The substrate is then inverted and the document transport moves the inverted substrate back to the transfer station to receive a second image. A sensor detects a leading edge and a trailing edge of the substrate, while an encoder operatively connected to the motor produces a predetermined number of pulses per revolution. A counter counts the number of encoder pulses between the leading edge and the trailing edge. The controller then determines the width of the substrate from the number of counted encoder pulses and from the distance the substrate advances per encoder pulse. The controller then controls the document transport to position the substrate at the transfer station such that the second image is registered with the first image.

  • Patent number: 5257070
Abstract: A method of purging copy sheets after a machine malfunction from a copy sheet path having a plurality of zones including the steps of determining the existence of copy sheets in process in any of the copy sheet path zones, selectively activating a plurality of independent copy sheet drives to maintain a predetermined interdocument space between any copy sheets in process and systematically purging the copy sheets from the zones of the paper path in a predetermined order based upon the particular disposition of the copy sheets in the sheet path zones.

  • Patent number: 4824090
Abstract: A reproduction machine having a duplex tray for processing duplex copies and copy sheet inverter, each with an adjustable back stop for adjusting the duplex tray and inverter size in accordance with the copy size being processed. To enable automatic operation, a control which includes sensors disposed in the path of the copy sheets is provided for measuring the size of the first copy sheet as the copy sheet is being processed and adjusting the duplex tray and inverter back stops in accordance with the size copy sheet determined.

  • Patent number: 4589765
Abstract: A reproduction machine with a paper path along which copy sheets are brought one by one into transfer relation with a photoreceptor to receive a developed image, the copy sheets being supplied from either a main or auxiliary paper tray which feeds sheets at a predetermined clock count in synchronization with the operation of the machine, a program permitting the current clock count of a selected tray to be determined and compared with a desired optimum clock count window stored in memory, with adjustment of the clock count made when the current clock count of the selected tray is outside the optimum clock count window to bring paper tray timing within the window, but prevented where the current clock count is outside preset maximum and minimum clock counts.

  • Patent number: 4497569
Abstract: A xerographic type reproduction machine or copier having means to monitor movement of the copy sheet and control processing thereof as the copy sheet moves along the machine paper path. A series of copy sheet monitoring stations at discrete intervals along the paper path and a copy information byte, which is provided with each copy sheet and which has instructions for processing the copy sheet to the next monitoring station, are provided. At start-up and during processing as the copy sheet moves from one station to the next, successive jam checks are made to identify and monitor movement of the copy sheet along the paper path. As each jam check is satisfied, the copy information byte is moved from one reading location to another to provide instructions for processing the copy sheet in the interval to the next monitoring station.
