  • Publication number: 20020088775
Abstract: A group operated circuit disconnect apparatus for overhead electrical power lines includes an operator controlling a plurality of disconnect switches. Each disconnect switch includes a vacuum circuit interrupter mounted inside an insulating bushing. Current is transferred from a terminal pad through the vacuum circuit interrupter to a vacuum terminal pad by attaching a silver-plated contact nut to a movable contact end of the vacuum circuit interrupter and using a rocker type contact assembly to connect the contact nut to the vacuum terminal pad. A rotating insulator of the disconnect switch drives a make/break mechanism that opens and closes the contacts inside the vacuum circuit interrupter. The rotating insulator turns a frame assembly so that an appropriate point in operation a trip point is reached and springs quickly rotate an actuator assembly driving the movable vacuum contacts at a high speed to the open or close position.

  • Patent number: 5483030
Abstract: A group operated switching apparatus for overhead electric power lines has a box-like elongated housing which mounts on a pole and supports three disconnect switches. Three operating shafts are journalled on the housing and are operatively connected to the disconnect switches so that axial rotation of the operating shafts alternately opens and closes the disconnect switches. An upright control shaft extends through the housing. A transverse rod assembly is enclosed within the housing and defines a mechanical connection between the control shaft and the operating shafts so that axial rotation of the control shaft causes axial rotation of the operating shafts. Each disconnect switch includes a jaw terminal having dual function backup springs and auxiliary contacts for minimizing effects of arcing during opening and closing of the switch.

  • Patent number: 5250894
Abstract: A current sensing system includes a number of remote current sensors for measuring the magnetic field surrounding each conductor of an electrical transmission system to independently monitor the current flowing through the conductors. A generally U-shaped mounting fixture is provided for supporting the current sensors in a fixed, predetermined orientation relative to each of the conductors. An electronic compensation circuit is provided for conditioning the output of each the sensors with the output of the other of the sensors to isolate the influence of the magnetic field induced by the current flowing through only one of the conductors.

  • Patent number: 4654540
Abstract: A group operated electric circuit disconnect apparatus for a plurality of overhead electric power distribution lines carried on poles. The apparatus includes an elongated extruded base mounted on and extending transversely of a pole. A bracket is connected to an electric circuit component. The elongated base has at least one elongated slot with a reduced dimensioned entry. The bracket is positioned and secured at any position along the base by fasteners having enlarged head portions mating within the slot.

  • Patent number: 4357505
Abstract: A group operated circuit disconnect apparatus for overhead electric power lines has a base in the form of a box-like housing which mounts on a pole, an upright shaft extends through the housing, and a transverse shaft also extends through the housing. A linkage is mounted on the shafts in the housing so that axial rotation of the transverse shaft axially rotates the upright shaft, and this causes three circuit disconnect switches mounted on the housing to be moved simultaneously between closed positions and open positions, or vice versa. An electric motor driven screw and nut drive subassembly for the transverse shaft is mounted in the housing; and the ends of the housing have removable closure plates for access to the linkage and for removal of the subassembly.

  • Patent number: 4127753
Abstract: An electric circuit disconnect switch has an improved hinge terminal mounting in which a rotatable blade has a hinge terminal end portion in which opposite faces are provided with sockets which are essentially hemispherical about a common axis, and a terminal connector has a bifurcated end portion defining a bight and effectively parallel arms which flank said faces of the blade and have threaded holes on said common axis near their free ends. Pivot studs which screw into the holes have hemispherical extremities seated in the sockets so that seating force applied by turning the studs spreads the arms and thus thrusts the pivot studs firmly into the sockets. A compression spring and an adjusting bolt and nut between the bight and the studs biases the arms toward one another with adjustable force.

  • Patent number: 4031346
Abstract: An electrical disconnect switch and circuit interrupter has an interrupter with an elongate tubular housing assembly that mounts on a fixed contact structure of the switch and has an internal fixed interrupter contact electrically connected to said fixed contact structure. A movable interrupter contact that normally abuts the fixed interrupter contact has a conductive actuating rod that slides in an apertured plug in one end of the housing assembly and has an actuating catch at its outer end, and a fixed conductive catch on the housing is electrically connected to the rod through the plug. An operating arm on a pivoted movable contact structure of the switch engages the catches sequentially as it is moved from closed position, first completing a bypass circuit through the fixed catch and then pulling the actuating rod to separate the interrupter contacts. The arm ultimately rides off the actuating catch and a spring returns the movable interrupter contact to its normal position.
