  • Patent number: 5336105
Abstract: A hermetic compressor with an external terminal shield including a cluster block, hermetic assembly, and an enclosure covering both the cluster block and hermetic terminal assembly, with electrical power supply wires leading out of the enclosure. A means for interlocking the cluster block with the enclosure is provided allowing disconnection of the cluster block from the hermetic terminal assembly when the enclosure is opened. The enclosure alternatively includes a protuberance urging the cluster block into sealing engagement with the hermetic terminal assembly. A disconnectable electrical connector is connected to supply wires leading from the cluster block to enable electrical connection to the hermetic terminal assembly to be broken without exposing the hermetic terminal assembly.

  • Patent number: 4966559
Abstract: A terminal block assembly for connection to the interior side of an electrical hermetic terminal of a hermetic compressor is disclosed. The hermetic terminal comprises a cup-shaped metallic body member having a plurality of conductor pins which extend through spaced apertures in the body member and are hermetically secured thereto by means of a glass insulating material. A cylindrical open end of the cup-shaped body member is exposed to the interior of the housing. The terminal block assembly comprises a main body member and a lid member. The main body member includes a cylindrical side wall portion that fits snugly within the open end of the terminal body member. The conductor pins extend through apertures in a round bottom wall of the main body member into partitioned channels in which the conductor pins are electrically connected to respective wire conductors. The lid member interlocks with the main body member to cover the partitioned channels.

  • Patent number: 4907951
Abstract: A pick-up tube for removing foreign particles from the lubricant supplied to hermetic motor-compressors of the type including an outer housing, a lubricant sump in the bottom of the housing, and a rotatable shaft vertically disposed in said housing is provided. The pick-up tube includes an annular groove disposed circumferentially around the pick-up tube, wherein foreign particles found in the lubricant are deposited in the groove as the particles move up the pick-up tube as a result of the centrifugal force created by the rotating of the shaft.

  • Patent number: 4109364
Abstract: A ball and socket joint and method of making in which a piston, especially a compressor piston, and most particularly a piston for a compressor that pumps refrigerant, has a top wall and a depending skirt and is connected to the upper end of a connecting rod by a ball joint which is made by forming a spherical socket in the upper end of the connecting rod and riveting a ball to the underside of the top wall of the piston and forming the upper peripheral region of the socket of the connecting rod around the upwardly facing side of the ball. In practice, the ball is placed in the socket of the connecting rod and the rod is formed about the ball and then the ball is riveted to the piston.
