  • Publication number: 20120217426
Abstract: Valve apparatus having a double-offset shaft connection are described herein. An example flow control member includes a sealing surface to move relative to a seal where the flow control member has a first axis and a second axis substantially perpendicular to the first axis and the first and second axes intersect a center of curvature of the sealing surface. The flow control member also includes an opening to receive a shaft where the opening has a third axis passing through the opening to define a pivot about which the sealing surface rotates. The third axis is offset from the first and second axes.

  • Publication number: 20120191670
Abstract: Described are computer-based methods and apparatuses, including computer program products, for dynamic deduplication. Data is processed using an algorithm that deduplicates the data based on a first set of parameters. A first moving average of a first deduplication performance metric is calculated for the algorithm over a time period. A second moving average of a second deduplication performance metric is calculated for the algorithm over the time period. It is determined that the first moving average satisfies a first criterion, the second moving average satisfies a second criterion, or both. The algorithm is reconfigured based on a second set of parameters to deduplicate data.

  • Publication number: 20120191669
Abstract: Described are computer-based methods and apparatuses, including computer program products, for detection and deduplication of backup sets exhibiting poor locality. A first set of summaries of a first data set are determined, each summary of the first set of summaries being indicative of a data pattern in the first data set. A second set of summaries of a second data set are determined, each summary of the second set of summaries being indicative of a data pattern in the second data set. A set of comparison metrics are calculated, each comparison metric being based on a first subset of summaries from the first set of summaries and a second subset of summaries from the second set of summaries. A locality metric is calculated based on the set of comparison metrics indicative of whether the first data set and second data set exhibit poor locality.

  • Patent number: 8202319
Abstract: Article of manufacture comprising a substrate and a coating layer. The coating layer comprises at least one coating material, and is stably affixed to the substrate to form a stable, coated surface. The coated surface has a texture that mimics the topography of mammalian keratinous tissue and demonstrates at least one physical property representative of mammalian keratinous tissue, selected from the group consisting of a total surface energy of from about 15 mJ/m2 to about 50 mJ/m2, a dispersive component of the surface energy of from about 15 mJ/m2 to about 50 mJ/m2, a polar component of the total surface energy of from about 1 mJ/m2 to about 14 mJ/m2, a zeta-potential at a pH of about 5.0 of from about ?40 mV to about 30 mV, and combinations thereof.

  • Publication number: 20120074779
Abstract: A phase balancing system includes a load forecasting module, a phase unbalance identification module and a demand response module. The load forecasting module determines a load forecast for the distribution system for the period of interest and the phase unbalance identification module determines voltage unbalance on the distribution system for the period of interest. The demand response module estimates an available demand response on the distribution system for the period of interest and allocates an optimized demand response from the available demand response to minimize the voltage unbalance on the distribution system for the period of interest.

  • Publication number: 20110320443
Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer media for enhancing search results, as well as user interfaces for performing search queries and navigating search results, are provided. A search query is received from a user. A plurality of web pages relevant to the search query are identified. At least one of the relevant web pages is identified as popular. A search result page is generated including a search result listing and a search result page header. • Patent number: 8041467
Abstract: A method of load dispatch generates a load dispatch curve in response to both the opportunity cost of dispatching resources with a contractually limited number of dispatches in a given time period and estimated rebound effect data. The method identifies a best time period for dispatch based on the load dispatch curve and also supply curve data and generates a resultant load dispatch schedule. The resultant load dispatch schedule is transmitted to one or more smart home meters to dispatch loads in a manner that provides the greatest economic benefit.

  • Publication number: 20110229599
Abstract: The present invention relates to feed compositions that can modify the feeding behavior of animals. Supplements can be added to no or low roughage rations that improve the performance of animals. In particular, the addition of calcium chloride to a low or no roughage ration can increase the number of feedings but decrease the amount of feeding per meal. This can result in promoting enhances feed conversion and better cost of feed to weight gain.

  • Publication number: 20110197791
Abstract: Mercury adsorbed from combustion gas by activated carbon can be sequestered in concrete containing air-entraining admixtures. The activated carbon may be made by providing a carbon char made from coconut shell, wood, or lignite that was activated by a method selected from the group consisting of activating with steam, activating with CO2, activating in an environment containing free oxygen, and combinations thereof to provide an activated carbon with an Acid Blue 80 Index of less than about 30 milligrams per gram of carbon. The activated carbon may be injected into a combustion gas stream containing fly ash and mercury and may then be removed with fly ash from the gas stream. The resulting composition may be used as a partial substitute for cement in air-entrained concretes.

  • Publication number: 20110184921
Abstract: Described are computer-based methods and apparatuses, including computer program products, for removing redundant data from a storage system. In one example, a data delineation process delineates data targeted for de-duplication into regions using a plurality of markers. The de-duplication system determines which of these regions should be subject to further de-duplication processing by comparing metadata representing the regions to metadata representing regions of a reference data set. The de-duplication system identifies an area of data that incorporates the regions that should be subject to further de-duplication processing and de-duplicates this area with reference to a corresponding area within the reference data set.

  • Patent number: 7978926
Abstract: In some embodiments, the present invention relates to methods or suppressing edge ringing in images. For example, in some embodiments a method of processing an image to suppress ringing and broadened edges induced by image correction processing, includes high-pass filtering a first image to obtain a second image, processing said second image including applying non-linear apodization to said second image to obtain a third image, low-pass filtering said first image to obtain a fourth image, and combining the third image and the fourth image to obtain an output image, wherein the output image is characterized by having reduced edge-response sidelobes as compared to the first images. In some embodiments, the present invention relates to devices comprising means and/or modules to suppress edge ringing in images.
