  • Publication number: 20140125233
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of controlling a dimmable luminaire co-arranged with a light sensor at a first level of a room and illuminating a second level of the room, comprising: determining an output path parameter representing a relation between the amount of light emitted from the luminaire and a luminaire illumination value at the second level, which results from the emitted amount of light; and repeatedly: determining an external illumination value at the second level, which external illumination value represents illumination by other sources than the luminaire, by means of values of the presently emitted amount of light, the output path parameter, and light information originating from the light sensor; and controlling the dimming level of the luminaire on basis of the external illumination value in order to meet a predetermined illumination condition for the total illumination at the second level.

  • Patent number: 8559542
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for communicating a signal to a first station from a second station, the stations having antenna array. For communication in bands like 60 GHz, it is advisable to carry out analog beam steering. But it is needed to compute all the beam forming weights in a single message. Then, the invention-proposes that for each signal, in the preamble, a plurality of training symbols are included, wherein during each training symbol repetition, the receiving station adjusts at least one antenna parameter of the plurality of antennas and measuring the combined signal for computing a set of antenna weights to be applied for an analog beam forming on the antenna array for receiving and/or transmitting the data field.

  • Publication number: 20130211756
Abstract: The invention relates to an operational state determination apparatus (1) for determining whether a variation in a determined electrical parameter of an electrical network (2) is caused by a variation in an operational state of an electrical consumer of the electrical network. The electrical network comprises multiple electrical consumers (3, 4, 5) and a voltage source (6), wherein a variation classification unit (10) determines whether a variation in the determined electrical parameter of the electrical network is caused by a variation in the operational state of an electrical consumer of the network depending on a decision variable which depends on a variation in a measured voltage and a variation in a measured current of the electrical network. This determination can be performed, without directly using the variation in the determined electrical parameter of the electrical network and is therefore less influenced by random voltage fluctuations in the electrical network.

  • Publication number: 20130202310
Abstract: Coded light has been proposed to enable advanced control of light sources and transmit information using light sources. Sequences of channel symbols to drive the light source are determined from sequences of source symbols such that no visible flicker is present in coded light emitted by the light sources. Each source symbol is mapped to a composite channel symbol comprising at least one first channel symbol which may be identical to the current source symbol and at least one second channel symbol which may be a function of the current source symbol and at least one future and/or past source symbol.

  • Publication number: 20130187665
Abstract: The invention relates to a disaggregation apparatus for identifying an appliance in an electrical network (2) comprising multiple appliances (3, 4, 5). A voltage meter (7) measures a first change in a mains voltage (V) delivered to the appliances of the electrical network, while an operational state of an appliance is modified, and a second change in the mains voltage, while a switchable load is switched. An appliance determination unit (9) determines the appliance, of which the operational state has been changed, based on the measured first change in the mains voltage, the measured second change in the mains voltage and the resistance of the switchable load. Thus, an appliance can be determined without detecting switching flickers in very short time durations, i.e. high sampling rates and continuous monitoring are not necessarily required. This reduces the technical efforts of the disaggregation apparatus for performing the disaggregation function.

  • Publication number: 20120135692
Abstract: The invention relates to a wireless remote controlled device selection system for selecting devices. Signal processing provides information for a remote control device. This information is indicative of the angle between the remote control device and the various devices from which a device should be selected. By analyzing the angular deviations, the desired device can be selected.

  • Patent number: 7961721
Abstract: A router for a network is arranged for guiding data traffic from one of a first plurality Ni of inputs (I) to one or more of a second plurality No of outputs (O). The inputs each have a third plurality m of input queues for buffering data. The third plurality m is greater than 1, but less than the second plurality No. The router includes a first selection facility for writing data received at an input to a selected input queue of the input, and a second selection facility for providing data from an input queue to a selected output. • Patent number: 7898999
Abstract: Methods for exchanging signals via a network with nodes (11-15) improve the performance of the network by letting a destination node (12) s receive the signals originating from a source node (11) via different first and second signal routes, and by processing and correlating these signals in the destination node (12). In dependence of a correlation result, a process for processing a signal in a node (11-15) is adjusted. This process may be situated in the destination node (12), or in the source node (11) or an io intermediate node (13-15), in which case a control signal is to be exchanged. A learning algorithm for the adjusting of the process can be run in the nodes (11-15). Label switched routing can be introduced, whereby the label signal is sent from the source node (11) to the destination node via a third signal route different from the first and second signal route, to improve the efficiency of the nodes (11-15).

  • Patent number: 7506049
Abstract: In a shared medium communication system, a common measure for avoiding collisions of application data is a request grant mechanism. Secondary stations contending for upstream bandwidth send requests on a shared medium, wherein each request is answered by a grant from the primary station. The efficiency of such a system may be improved if at least two access requests are merged into a multi request.

  • Publication number: 20080032651
Abstract: A relay, for use in an indoor multi-carrier radio frequency wireless communications system, stores multiple predetermined phase adjustment profiles. The best of the stored phase adjustment profiles is selected by a receiver, which sends a message to the relay, indicating the profile to be used. The selected stored phase adjustment profiles is then applied to a multi-carrier signal received at the relay, to form a phase adjusted multi-carrier signal, and this phase adjusted signal is then transmitted from the relay.

  • Publication number: 20070275669
Abstract: Transmitters (116) for transmitting information and receivers (126) for receiving the information are defined by the information comprising a primary message and a secondary message combined in a same transmission or a same reception, which primary and secondary messages comprise communication protocol signaling messages, to avoid that a protocol conversion arrangement needs to be added to and to be placed between the transmitter (116) and the receiver (126). This increases the efficiency of the transmitter (116) and the receiver (126). The primary and secondary communication protocol messages are in accordance with first and second standards such as 802.11 a and later standards such as 802.11 n. The receiver (126) is able to detect the primary or secondary communication protocol message in case of the receiver (126) being in accordance with the first or second standard.

  • Publication number: 20070274334
Abstract: A method of controlling a window in a contention resolution protocol for a shared channel between at least three contending stations, according to which a station contends for a channel over a number of steps by generating a number, x, within an interval with a lower bound, l, initially equal to an initial lower bound, L, and an upper bound, h, initially equal to an initial upper bound, U; and by trying to access the channel if the number, x, falls within a window with the lower bound, l, and an upper window bound, w; a station which generated a number outside the window is eliminated from contending for the channel; whereas a station which generated a number within the window continues to contend for the channel; the method continues until one station is singled out to be determined winning the contention; the method comprises a step of: setting the upper window bound, w, to set a window within which the expected number of stations that will try to access the channel is approximately equal to 1.
