  • Patent number: 5723898
Abstract: The present disclosure sets forth an improved integrated circuit in which circuit elements, adjacent to a fuse, are protected by barriers positioned adjacent the fuse. In the improved integrated circuit the barriers are non-frangible, high melting point structures buried in the passivating layer, covering a wiring layer containing a fuse, and are between the fuse and adjacent circuit elements in the wiring layer structures. Also taught is a method of protecting circuit elements adjacent a fuse comprising the steps of depositing an insulating layer on the surface of a semiconductor device having active regions therein, forming a plurality of fuses and circuit elements in said layer, coating said fuses and elements with a second insulating layer, patterning said second insulating layer to form grooves between each of said fuses and any adjacent fuse or circuit element, and depositing a high melting point and non-frangible material in said grooves.

  • Patent number: 5640530
Abstract: A method and system for controlling data flow in a storage subsystem containing multiple cache and/or multiple NVS elements based on the operability of the cache arrays and NVS arrays. In a data processing system having a storage controller connecting a plurality of host processors and a plurality of storage devices, this invention provides a method and architecture for managing multiple storage elements within the controller, without a degradation in subsystem performance and without data integrity problems. A set of configuration registers is utilized by the microcontroller to direct cache and NVS access to the proper storage array. A configuration table is loaded with status information concerning the memory arrays at Initial Microcode Load(IML) and this information is periodically updated during controller operation.

  • Patent number: 5379875
Abstract: Discrimination between genuine coins and unacceptable coins (i.e., slugs) deposited in a coin-actuated vending machine, is achieved by guiding a deposited coin for movement along a guide path, and positioning a disk-shaped coil which forms part of an oscillator circuit at a certain position relative to the first guide path such that coins of certain diameters will interact with flux produced by the coil when the latter is excited by the oscillator circuit and the coins are guided in proximity with the coil. Amplitude and frequency values each corresponding to operation of the oscillator circuit (1) in the absence of a proximate coin, and (2) when a deposited coin is at positions along the first guide path which are in proximity with the coil, are measured. Degrees of shift in the amplitude and the frequency values between measurements made at (1) and (2) are then determined. The determined degrees of shift are compared against known shift limits for acceptable (i.e.

  • Patent number: 4987412
Abstract: An apparatus and method for location by location correlation of multiple images from Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) and other sources. Multiple images of a material specimen are displayed on one or more monitors of an interactive graphics system. Specimen landmarks are located in each image and mapping functions from a reference image to each other image are calcuated using the landmark locations. A location selected by positioning a cursor in the reference image is mapped to the other images and location identifiers are simultaneously displayed in those images. Movement of the cursor in the reference image causes simultaneous movement of the location identifiers in the other images to positions corresponding to the location of the reference image cursor.

  • Patent number: 4095155
Abstract: A direct current motor which includes a stator for producing a fixed magnetic field and a plurality of armature windings. The motor is caused to rotate by applying current to each winding only while that winding is passing through a zone in a given orientation relative to the stator field. The direction of rotation is changed without changing the direction of the current applied to the windings, by changing the orientation of the zone relative to the stator field, to reverse the direction of the rotational force applied to the armature. Because the current does not reverse through the armature windings, the control circuit can be simple and in a preferred embodiment includes only two gate-turn-off silicon controlled rectifiers, a switch, and a resistor.

  • Patent number: 4058751
Abstract: A lamp is included as a cathode load for a gate-turn-off silicon controlled rectifier (GTO). The conduction path of a transistor is connected between the gate electrode of the GTO and ground. The GTO and lamp are turned off by applying current in the forward direction through the base-emitter junction of the transistor, thereby turning on the transistor and placing the gate electrode of the GTO at ground. The forward current passes through a thermal circuit breaker which periodically opens in response to the heat produced by the current flow, causing the gate electrode of the GTO to become forward biased via the collector load resistance of the transistor and turn on.

  • Patent number: 4044450
Abstract: An apparatus and method for securing a tape loop hanger at the gathered end of a stuffed or unstuffed casing using a substantially U-shaped clip. Specifically the U-shaped clip forces a preformed tape loop hanger into contact with a gathered end portion of a casing whereupon the two opposed legs of the clip are deformed to encircle the gathered casing and the tape loop hanger with sufficient pressure so as to crimp and anchor the tape loop hanger between the legs of the clip so as to secure the tape loop hanger to the gathered end of the casing.

  • Patent number: 4023049
Abstract: When a gate-turn-off silicon controlled rectifier (GTO) is turned on, the potential of its gate electrode rises toward the voltage at its anode electrode. This gate voltage is employed to turn on a second GTO to insure that the loads driven by these GTO's are energized in a particular order. Switches in the circuit permit the GTO's to be turned off concurrently or in any order desired. A charge storage circuit may be included for controlling the turn-on delay between the two GTO's.

  • Patent number: 4016433
Abstract: The current through the main conduction path of a gate-turn-off silicon controlled rectifier (GTO) charges a capacitor in the cathode circuit of the rectifier. The GTO is turned off by providing a discharge path for the capacitor via the cathode-to-gate electrode of the GTO. A diode in the charging path of the capacitor becomes back-biased during discharge of the capacitor, thereby preventing the load in the cathode circuit of the rectifier from bypassing any of the discharge current.
