  • Patent number: 5651336
Abstract: A variable valve selection assembly for an engine valve train of an engine cylinder head which has dual camshafts and two valves associated with each camshaft per cylinder. The variable valve selection assembly includes two end rocker arms and a middle rocker arm and a selectively actuated latching mechanism operative between an end rocker arm and the middle rocker arm so as to selectively link an end rocker arm with said middle rocker arm whereby an end rocker arm moves independently of said middle rocker arm in some modes of operation and whereby an end rocker arm moves in common with said middle rocker arm in other modes of operation.

  • Patent number: 5613469
Abstract: A hydraulically powered and electrically activated control system for a variable valve selection assembly for an internal combustion engine of the type with two intake valves per cylinder and an overhead valve arrangement so as to selectively produce four different operational modes. The control system includes an ECU responsive to a plurality of engine and vehicle related operative parameters to control solenoid operated valves which selectively direct pressurized fluid to valve rocker arm latching means which either permit pairs of rocker arms to move independently of one another or cause a pair of rocker arms to move together.

  • Patent number: 5590627
Abstract: A fluid inletting system for a hydaulically actuated variable valve selection assembly for an engine valve train of an engine cylinder head with dual camshafts and two valves associated with each camshaft per cylinder. The latching mechanisms associated with the rocker arms are activated by pressurized engine lubricating oil which is introduced to the interior of the tubular support shaft for application against the end of the cylindrical portion of the latching member. The support shafts for each cylinder are supported by bosses of the cylinder head and aligned end to end with thin washer or spacer members between the ends of adjacent shafts to define separate oil passages in two adjacent shafts.

  • Patent number: 5535717
Abstract: Method and mechanism for distributing air and recirculating gasses into the cylinders of internal combustion engines involving left and right side throttle bodies connected to the branches of a common air intake for controlling inlet air fed to left and right side inlet manifolds. These two manifolds are longitudinally offset from one another so that the outlets of their runners are in alignment and can be readily attached to the head of the engine. With such construction and for space saving considerations the throttle body for the right side intake manifold is located close to an outlet of a crossover tube recirculating exhaust gas into this manifold and the inlet of an air supply runner of this manifold for feeding air to one of the cylinders.
