  • Patent number: 9100132
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for gathering audience measurement data relating to exposure of an audience member to audio data. Audio data is received in a user system and is then encoded with audience measurement data. The encoded audio data is reproduced by the user system, picked up by a monitor and decoded to recover the audience measurement data.

  • Patent number: 8572640
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for identifying and/or measuring usage of media data gathered at a user location using remote decoding and/or pattern matching techniques. A data set is formed based on the media data, which includes some, but not all, of the information represented by the media data. The data set is communicated to a remotely located processing system for detecting a code based on the data set and/or conducting a pattern matching process based on the data set.

  • Publication number: 20090171767
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for carrying out a research operation in which each of a plurality of panelists carries a portable research data gathering device. Each of the portable research data gathering devices is configured to gather research data only during a time period or time periods of a monitoring day of the research operation having a total duration which is less than the duration of the monitoring day. Methods and systems are also provided for setting up and/or managing such a research operation.

  • Patent number: 7483975
Abstract: The present invention concerns methods and systems for gathering data concerning usage of media data provided from a predetermined receiver to a user. First data concerning usage of the media data is gathered by means of a portable monitor carried on the person of the user. Second data concerning usage of media data by the predetermined receiver is gathered by a monitoring system separate from the portable monitor, the second data corresponding to at least a portion of the first data. Audience measurement data is produced based on the first and second data.

  • Publication number: 20030054757
Abstract: Systems and methods for monitoring usage of media data at user locations in which the presence or absence of media data in monitored data is determined. Where media data is present, it is separated from the monitored data and used to produce data representing usage of media data.

  • Patent number: 5408258
Abstract: A method and system for automatically qualifying a signal reproduction device for installation of monitoring equipment. In a household in which viewing patterns are to be monitored, for example, a relatively inexpensive and simple set usage device is installed in proximity to a television set which is expected to receive little or no use. Times when the set is in use are sensed, and data concerning those times are stored and transmitted to a central location. At the central location, the times represented by the transmitted data are compared to a minimum usage threshold, and a more sophisticated monitoring device, able to detect the channel tuning state of the T.V. set, is installed in proximity to the T.V. set only if the usage of the T.V. set exceeds the minimum usage threshold. The number of relatively expensive and complex tuning-monitoring devices required to be installed is thereby reduced.
