  • Patent number: 11476674
Abstract: A power distribution monitoring system is provided that can include a number of features. The system can include a plurality of monitoring devices configured to attach to individual conductors on a power grid distribution network. In some embodiments, a monitoring device is disposed on each conductor of a three-phase network and utilizes a split-core transformer to harvest energy from the conductors. The monitoring devices can be configured to harvest energy from the AC power grid. In some embodiments, the monitoring devices are configured to draw a ratiometric current to maintain an output resistance that equals an input resistance. Methods of installing and using the monitoring devices are also provided.

  • Patent number: 11041915
Abstract: A power distribution monitoring system is provided that can include a number of features. The system can include a plurality of monitoring devices configured to attach to individual conductors on a power grid distribution network. In some embodiments, a monitoring device includes a current sensing element comprising a Rogowski coil. The output of the Rogowski coil can be used by a fault detection circuit to determine if a fault or disturbance occurs on the conductor. Methods of using the monitoring devices are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20200088772
Abstract: A voltage measuring system is provided that can include a number of features. The system can include a sensing device configured to measure a true primary voltage of a high-voltage conductor. In some examples, the sensing device can be configured to electrically connect to a voltage test point of a loadbreak connector. The sensing device can include a current-to-voltage converter circuit and an integrator circuit to provide an output representative of the true primary voltage of the high-voltage conductor. Methods of using the sensing devices are also provided.

In some embodiments, a monitoring device is disposed on each conductor of a three-phase network and utilizes a split-core transformer to harvest energy from the conductors. The monitoring devices can be configured to harvest energy from the AC power grid and saturate the magnetic core of the transformer in the event of a fault condition or when harvested power is not needed. Methods of installing and using the monitoring devices are also provided.
