    Abstract: An improved apparatus for the gunning of a material is provided having a nozzle with an inner passage defined by an inner tubular member having an inlet end into which a wetted material is to be introduced and an outlet end from which the material is to be sprayed. An outer tubular member is disposed around the inner tubular member defining an outer passage between the inner and outer tubular members. A compressed gas is passed through the outer passage and impinged on the wetted material exiting the inner passage to better control the spray pattern of the wetted material. The inner tubular member extends out beyond the outlet end of the outer tubular member and the inner surface of the outer tubular member and the outer surface of the inner tubular member near the outlet end are chamfered to provide an optimal attitude for the impinging air.

    Abstract: Composite tooling is fabricated with low cost dry fabrics and a neat resin instead of expensive prepregs. Dry, three-dimensional woven joint preforms are placed on a dry tool substrate and dry, 3D preforms are also placed between pre-cured egg crate-like junctions. The entire tool substrate and substrate-to-support structure joints are then resin-infused simultaneously through the use of rota-molded tooling aids, providing an additional reduction in cost. Tight control of resin content and distribution with vacuum infusion is thereby provided. This process eliminates the primary cause of structural weakness and cooling distortion, which typically occur at the attachment interface when existing methods are used. The preforms provide significantly greater pull-off strengths at interfaces than do hand-laid tie plies. Issues with tool surface durability are addressed through the use of ceramic-filled face coat.

    Abstract: The present invention generally provides a method and apparatus for injecting a compressible fluid at a controlled flow rate into a geological formation at multiple zones of interest. In one aspect, the invention provides a tubing string with a pocket and a nozzle at each isolated zone. The nozzle permits a predetermined, controlled flow rate to be maintained at higher annulus to tubing pressure ratios. The nozzle includes a diffuser portion to recover lost steam pressure associated with critical flow as the steam exits the nozzle and enters a formation via perforations in wellbore casing. In another aspect, the present invention assures that the fluid is supplied uniformly to a long horizontal wellbore by providing controlled injection at multiple locations that are distributed throughout the length of the wellbore.

    Abstract: A film microwave termination device includes a substrate, such as a ceramic substrate, and multiple film resistors formed on the substrate. The film resistors each have a predetermined resistivity generally less than a desired characteristic impedance of the device. The resistors are connected together in series so as to (i) provide an overall impedance equal to the desired characteristic impedance, and (ii) generate less intermodulation distortion in microwave signals coupled to the termination device than would be generated by an alternative termination device employing a single film resistor whose resistivity is equal to the desired characteristic impedance. In a disclosed 50-ohm termination, four square elements are formed of thick-film material having resistivity of 12.5 ohms per square, and these four elements are connected in series on the substrate to realize the desired 50 ohm termination impedance. Thin-film resistors may also be employed.
