  • Patent number: 7872775
Abstract: A resolution quality redefinition control system for a multi function scanner/printer controls a plurality of functions executable such as scanning, printing, copying and faxing. Multiple resolution qualities may be selected by a user for any of the functions through a user input in communication with the controller. A designated quality resolution may not be appropriate for a designated function, however. Some of the functions have an optimal resolution and/or a significant range of resolutions. When the designated quality resolution is not appropriate for a designated function, the controller re-defines the designated quality resolution as an execute resolution for each execution of one of the functions.

  • Publication number: 20100091312
Abstract: Multiple enhancements are provided to a smart copy function of an imaging device to improve performance by making it operate in a time efficient manner. The enhancements include determining pre-positioning of the scan bar based upon the content type setting in the user interface. The smart copy function is also enhanced by determining when to implement and implementing a second pre-scan at a higher resolution when misidentification occurs. Another enhancement uses original size and edge to edge properties to determine content of the original document, which then allows optimal selection of the final copy scan and print parameters.

  • Publication number: 20090067005
Abstract: A method for scanning a document and printing a copy with improved efficiency is provided. The method includes scanning the document with a first resolution, determining a content type of the scanned document while scanning at the first resolution and determining an optimum scanning resolution based on the content type. Rescanning the document at the optimum resolution if the first resolution does not correlate with the optimum resolution, selecting a print setting based on the content type and printing the copy using the print setting.

  • Patent number: 6706118
Abstract: A coating apparatus for applying a coating liquid to a printing substrate. The apparatus includes a rotatable first roll, and a rotatable second roll positioned adjacent to the first roll and defining with the first roll a first nip through which the printing substrate passes. The apparatus also has a metering device for applying a layer of coating liquid onto the second roll, which in turn transfers the coating liquid to the printing substrate. The apparatus further has a controller that communicates with at least the second roll, wherein the controller performs the steps of determining whether the idle time of the second roll is longer than a predetermined threshold, setting a pre-spin flag if the idle time of the second roll is longer than a predetermined threshold, and directing the second roll to perform a pre-spin upon the presence of the pre-spin flag.

  • Patent number: 6693579
Abstract: A method of improving a sealing between a purge mechanism and a printhead includes the steps of providing a purge cap with a perimetrical sealing lip; and exercising the perimetrical sealing lip of the purge cap against the sealing surface of the printhead. The exercising is effected by generating a repetitive relative movement between the sealing surface of the printhead and the perimetrical sealing lip of the purge cap.

  • Patent number: 6450611
Abstract: A method of positioning an ink jet printhead in a printer includes dividing a bitmap into a plurality of rows of tiles. A subset of the rows of tiles to be printed in a next pass of the printhead is identified. Printable ones of the tiles in the subset of rows are identified. The printable tiles contain printable data. Within each printable tile, a top most location of the printable data and at least one of a left most location of the printable data and a right most location of the printable data are identified. A print medium is advanced in a feed direction until a portion of the print medium corresponding with the top most location of the printable data of at least one printable tile is substantially aligned with a top nozzle of the printhead.
