  • Patent number: 5279458
Abstract: A Network Management Control System for a multi-space building having individual space heating and cooling units in each space that ties the individual heating and cooling units together with a central computer which allows the remote computer to interrogate and overwrite parameters set at each local heating and cooling unit.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 12, 1991
Date of Patent: January 18, 1994
    Assignee: Carrier Corporation
Inventors: Thomas L. DeWolf, Thomas R. Phillips, Ronald W. Bench
  • Patent number: 5257506
Abstract: A defrost cycle for a heat pump system which optimizes the efficiency of the heat pump by initiating defrost depending upon the relationship of both the outdoor coil ambient temperature and the outdoor coil refrigerant temperature with a predetermined temperature reference level.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 22, 1991
Date of Patent: November 2, 1993
    Assignee: Carrier Corporation
Inventors: Thomas L. DeWolf, Thomas R. Phillips, Ronald W. Bench
  • Patent number: 5240178
Abstract: A space temperature control which prevents overshoot and undershoot of a desired space temperature by adjusting a subsequent sensed space temperature as a function of a previous sensed maximum space temperature to deenergize a space conditioning device at the adjusted temperature to maintain the desired space temperature.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 5, 1991
Date of Patent: August 31, 1993
Inventors: Thomas L. Dewolf, Thomas R. Phillips, Ronald W. Bench
  • Patent number: 5179841
Abstract: A adjustable defrost cycle for a heat pump system which ensures that the outdoor coil is maintained free of frost by adjusting a defrost initiation reference level for the initiation of the next subsequent defrost cycle depending upon the time period of the previous defrost cycle.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 22, 1991
Date of Patent: January 19, 1993
    Assignee: Carrier Corporation
Inventors: Thomas R. Phillips, Thomas L. Dewolf, Ronald W. Bench
  • Patent number: 4835715
Abstract: An outdoor coil temperature detection scheme in a heat pump system effective for developing outdoor ambient temperature indications from outdoor coil temperature data, for use in heat pump control.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 17, 1986
Date of Patent: May 30, 1989
    Assignee: Carrier Corporation
Inventors: Ronald W. Bench, Robert W. Peitz, Jr., John M. Palmer, Daryl G. Erbs
  • Patent number: 4734628
Abstract: A compressor speed control arrangement with provision for selecting compressor speed in view of changes in room ambient temperature, detecting a feedback signal indicative of compressor speed, calculating actual compressor speed, developing an error signal between selected and actual compressor speeds and modifying compressor speed in view of the developed error signal.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 1, 1986
Date of Patent: March 29, 1988
    Assignee: Carrier Corporation
Inventors: Ronald W. Bench, Robert W. Peitz
  • Patent number: 4729089
Abstract: A method of operating a switching relay with inductive coils by a microprocessor control to prevent the transient electro-magnetic noise caused by the switching relay from resetting the microprocessor and restarting the program at the beginning. Prior to switching a relay a code is loaded in the memory of the control. After the relay switching noise causes a reset, the control detects the code and jumps back to its proper place without a disruption in its operation.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 11, 1985
Date of Patent: March 1, 1988
    Assignee: Carrier Corporation
Inventors: Ronald W. Bench, Mario F. Briccetti
  • Patent number: 4508938
Abstract: A solid state push-button dial circuit in which a push-button key pad uses a simple on-off switch for each key to mute the receiver and open the circuit to the transmitter while a dial tone is being generated. The circuit, when operating with the speaker phone, mutes the speaker phone when the key is depressed. The phone can be easily switched to a polarity-sensitive state in which the tone generator is turned on only if the proper polarity is present on the telephone line.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 18, 1983
Date of Patent: April 2, 1985
    Assignee: Comdial Telephone Systems, Inc.
Inventors: Ronald W. Bench, Edson S. Hineline, Jr.
