Abstract: The use of high flash point low vapor pressure compositions for removal of crude oil deposits from tar sands by injection of products in situ or by removal of tar sands and batch processing. Processing equipment is designed for use on these compositions to maximize recovery of deposits and producing clean sand clays or other base materials for re-deposition without further treatment. The compositions consist of solvent based cleaners, solvent emulsion cleaners, and/or water based alkaline cleaners.
