  • Patent number: 6854318
Abstract: A method of testing a product for leaks includes applying to the product a reference pressure that is less than 50.6 KPa. The method also includes developing a gas flow through a leak detection sensor in response to applying the reference pressure to the product. Another step of the method includes determining, based upon the gas flow between the product and the pressure system, whether the product leaked an unacceptable amount during the test period.

  • Patent number: 6308556
Abstract: A leak detection system for testing a sealed product for leaks includes a test chamber, a pressure system that is operable to maintain a substantially constant pressure during a test period, and a leak sensor coupled to the test chamber via a first conduit and the pressure system via a second conduit. The test chamber of the leak detection system includes a receptacle dimensioned to receive the sealed product. Moreover, the test chamber includes a cover dimensioned to operably seal the receptacle at an initial internal pressure when placed into position with the receptacle. The leak sensor of the leak detection system is operable to permit gas flow between the test chamber and the pressure system via the first conduit and the second conduit. The leak sensor is also operable to obtain a value representative of total mass of the gas flow between the sealed test chamber and the pressure system during the test period.

  • Patent number: 5861546
Abstract: An intelligent leak test and gas flow measurement apparatus having a body with a conical bore, a center shaft positioned in the conical bore to form a laminar flow gap bounded by the surface of the conical bore and the center shaft, a precisely machined spacer at the second end portion of the body for positioning the center shaft within the conical bore, a pressure differential sensor in contact with the laminar flow gap. A temperature sensor for determining the temperature of the gas flowing through the laminar flow gap is located on a columnar housing and a static pressure sensor for measuring the static pressure is located within the columnar housing. A microcontroller connected to the pressure differential sensor, the temperature sensor and the static pressure sensor, which microcontroller uses embedded software to calculate gas flow measurements and leak detection.
