  • Patent number: 6876939
Abstract: The present invention discloses wave frequency calibration method and device for remote controller, the device of the present invention comprises an oscillator for generating a base wave; a storage for storing a match value; a modifier for generating a modified signal; and a processor connected to the oscillator, the storage and the modifier, the processor change the match value until the modified signal disappear and store the most updated match value in the storage to assure the receiving end of the remote controller can receive the signal with correct frequency. Incorporating with a RC oscillator, the wave frequency calibration method and device for remote controller of the present invention will avoid the problem of the bias of wave, which enables the RC oscillator to be a oscillator that can be used commonly in a regular remote controller.

  • Patent number: 5784215
Abstract: A method and apparatus for recording and replaying variable speed data uses a rotating drum device. When information to be recorded is presented to the transfer rate of the information, be recorded is determined. If this information is not presented at a standard information transfer rate (N), it is converted to that standard rate. If the information not only is not at the standard rate N, but is outside a predetermined amount from that standard rate, the travel speed of the magnetic medium is slowed and the activation sequence of the magnetic recording head is altered. In the case where the information to be recorded is at a rate outside of the predetermined rate, the magnetic medium travel speed is reduced from the standard speed (L/T) in relation to the information transfer rate of the information to be recorded. If the tape speed is reduced to L/XT, then the activation sequence is every Xth head.

  • Patent number: 5615018
Abstract: An apparatus and a method for variable speed searching of recorded pictures on a storage medium is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a recording-playback device which records pictures and an information value signal, and plays back the recorded pictures. A speed controller responsive to the information value signal adjusts the speed of the recording-playback device during a fast-scan search (i.e., fast-forward or fast-backward search). The fast-scan search speed is adjusted so that the recorded pictures with high information values are played back at a slower fast-scan speed and the recorded pictures with low information values are played back at a faster fast-scan speed. The information value signal is generated during recording or during playback. The information value signal has a low value when a correlation between temporally successive recorded pictures is high, and a high value when the correlation is low, the correlation depends upon temporal redundancy between the successive video pictures.

  • Patent number: 5579185
Abstract: An apparatus and process are disclosed for automatically changing the speed of a recording tape from a first speed to a second speed, based on a one-time determination of predicted time of changeover. The second speed is 1/n of the first speed, where n is any real number greater than 1. A central processing unit determines the time of changeover at the start of the recording process, using inputs from a recording timer and a reel detector to determine the program time and the remaining tape time on a supply reel. When the program time initially exceeds the remaining tape time at the first speed, the system automatically predicts and then implements the changeover to the second speed, such that the first speed portion is maximized to take advantage of its superior signal-to-noise ratio.
