  • Patent number: 7815575
Abstract: An ultrasonic monitor implemented on a PCB includes a transmission medium. The transmission medium may be biocompatible and implemented as an oil-based transmission medium, a gel pad, or a combination thereof. Ultrasonic signals are transmitted between the ultrasonic monitor and a living subject through the transmission medium. An air gap is formed in the PCB underneath transducer elements to provide for more efficient signal transmission. The entire ultrasonic monitor may be encapsulated in plastic, a transmission medium, or both to provide water resistant properties.

  • Patent number: 7798970
Abstract: An ultrasonic monitor implemented on a PCB includes a gel pad comprised of a gel layer and a membrane layer. Ultrasonic signals are transmitted between the ultrasonic monitor and a living subject through the gel pad. An air gap is formed in the PCB underneath transducer elements to provide for more efficient signal transmission. These features provide for a low power, low cost, more efficient ultrasonic monitor. The entire ultrasonic monitor may be encapsulated in plastic, a gel, or both to provide water resistant properties.

  • Patent number: 7070713
Abstract: A single component sag-free liquid ebonite composition having silane coupling agents selected to chemically bond and convert liquid unsaturated rubber to alkoxy functionality, to consume and scavenge moisture originally present in the mixture, and to react with sulfur during vulcanization. The single component liquid ebonite composition is moisture activated and is particularly useful for coating applications in protecting metal from corrosion and chemical attack. In some embodiments, the liquid ebonite composition having a total mass percentage of 100 is mainly composed of liquid unsaturated rubber, sulfur, a vulcanization activator, a vulcanization accelerator, a first silane, a second silane, and a third silane. With the right reactive functional group, the third silane can replace the first or second silane. In some embodiments, the liquid ebonite composition includes a catalyst, carbon black, fillers, additives, and a diluent or solvent.

  • Patent number: 7005483
Abstract: Overall, ebonite coatings or elastomeric linings are not recommended for direct immersion in sulfuric acid with higher than 65% concentration. By blending a chemical resistant epoxy resin to an ebonite coating, the resulting epoxy ebonite composition can be employed in more severe environment such as direct immersion in >65% sulfuric acid. In particular, the present invention provides a blend of an epoxy coating with an ebonite coating with a mix ratio of 95/5 to 5/95, the resulting epoxy ebonite composition of which has greatly increased adhesion to steel and excellent resistance to undercut corrosion when subjected to salt spray. The epoxy ebonite composition according to the present invention can be used as coatings, adhesives, encapsulants or sealants and is particularly useful as industrial coatings that are subject to wide temperature variations, salt contamination or chemical attack.

  • Publication number: 20040249044
Abstract: A high temperature resistant coating composition comprising mainly a silicone resin, an epoxy resin, an amidoamine curing agent, and a mixture of three fillers: titanium dioxide, aluminum flake, and micaceous iron oxide. The silicone resin based composition can resist greater than 500° C. temperature for long term uses and can protect a kiln or industrial facilities such as a cement or power plant from corrosions, including undercut corrosions, and chemical attacks, particularly sodium hydroxide. The coating can gel at ambient temperature to render it tack free for easy handling and inspection. The composition disclosed herein has improved coating properties and can be baked at elevated temperatures without sagging or run-off on a vertical surface. Optionally, additional fillers, a catalyst, an additive, and an organic solvent can be added to the composition.

  • Publication number: 20040204515
Abstract: The present invention provides a chemical resistant epoxy composition comprising epoxy resin of 100 parts by weight and precipitated silica of 5-65 parts. We have discovered that the addition of precipitated silica surprisingly improves the chemical resistance property of the epoxy composition substantially. The chemical resistant epoxy composition is highly resistant to chemical attack and can be advantageously used for short or long term direct, total, continuous, or intermittent immersion applications, such as interior and exterior protective coatings, adhesives, encapsulants, or resin-fiber composites.

  • Publication number: 20030105234
Abstract: An ebonite preform is made either of a single component mixture or a two-component mixture. A single component mixture includes unsaturated polymers, a sulfur vulcanization agent, a sulfur solubilizer, a vulcanization accelerator, and a vulcanization activator. Preferably, the sulfur solubilizer is polyamine, and the vulcanization accelerator is tetramethylthiuram disulfide. Reaction of polyamine and tetramethylthiuram disulfide causes a gelation in the mixture at ambient condition. A two-component mixture includes first and second components. First component includes first unsaturated polymers having first functional groups capable of reaction at ambient temperature, a sulfur vulcanization agent, and a vulcanization activator. Second component includes second unsaturated polymers having second functional groups that will react with first functional groups of the first unsaturated polymers at ambient condition, which causes a gelation in the mixture.

  • Patent number: 6482894
Abstract: A liquid ebonite mixture for coating includes two reactive components. The first component contains first unsaturated polymers having first functional groups capable of reaction at ambient condition either with or without a catalyst, a vulcanization agent, and a vulcanization activator. The second component contains second unsaturated polymers having second functional groups that will react with the first functional groups at ambient temperature. The first and the second unsaturated polymers must contain sufficient unsaturated backbones to allow vulcanization with the vulcanization agent. In addition, the second unsaturated polymers must be thermodynamically compatible with the first unsaturated polymers so that macroscopic phase separation will not occur and the vulcanization can happen homogeneously through out the coating.

  • Patent number: 5952396
Abstract: An elastomer has a modulus intermediate between that of a conventional rubber and a gel. The elastomer includes (a) between 20 and 45 parts by weight of a semicrystalline elastomer having between 1 and 15% crystallinity and (b) between 80 and 55 parts by weight of a compatible liquid elastomer having a number-average molecular weight of between 1,500 and 8,500. The elastomer's modulus is sufficiently high to enable it to be fabricated into handleable articles, but is sufficiently low so that it provides effective sealing of substrates it covers without the need for introducing a separate sealing material such as a mastic or adhesive.
