Abstract: In one aspect, this disclosure relates to a method and associated apparatus that allows a user to obtain a semi-structured data input and a workload input. An improved semi-structured data storage schema is selected for a relational schema in response to the semi-structured data input and the workload input. The semi-structured data is segmented based on the selected improved semi-structured data storage schema. In one aspect, the semi-structured data is XML data.

Abstract: A method and system for ranking possible causes of a component exhibiting a certain behavior is provided. In one embodiment, a troubleshooting system ranks candidate configuration parameters that may be causing a software application to exhibit an undesired behavior using support information relating to problems resulting from the settings of configuration parameters. The support information may be collected from problem reports generated by product support services personnel when troubleshooting problems that users encounter with the application. The troubleshooting system ranks the candidate configuration parameters as likely causing the application to exhibit the undesired behavior based on analysis of the support information.

Abstract: A search system generates an index for databases by generatively sampling the databases and uses that index to identify and formulate queries for searching the databases. The generated index is referred to as a domain-attribute index and contains a domain-level index and site-level indexes. A site-level index for a database maps site attributes to distinct attribute values within the database. The domain-level index for a domain maps attribute values to database and site attribute pairs that contain those attribute values. To generate a site-level index for a database within a certain domain, the search system starts out with an initial set of the sample data for that domain. The search system generates sampling queries based on the sample data and submits the sampling queries to a database. The search system updates the site-level index based on the sampling results and uses the results to generate more sampling queries.

Abstract: A method and system for identifying schemas of web databases is provided. A schema matching system generates a mapping between an interface schema and a result schema of a web database, which is used to represent the underlying database schema. The schema matching system also generates a mapping of the interface attributes and the result attributes of the web database to global attributes of a global schema whose semantics are known. Using these mappings, a search engine service can formulate queries using the global attributes, map those queries to the corresponding interface attributes, submit the query, and retrieve the values from the result attributes that correspond to the desired global attributes.

Abstract: A method and system for identifying the importance of information areas of a display page. An importance system identifies information areas or blocks of a web page. A block of a web page represents an area of the web page that appears to relate to a similar topic. The importance system provides the characteristics or features of a block to an importance function that generates an indication of the importance of that block to its web page. The importance system “learns” the importance function by generating a model based on the features of blocks and the user-specified importance of those blocks. To learn the importance function, the importance system asks users to provide an indication of the importance of blocks of web pages in a collection of web pages.

Abstract: A method and system for determining relatedness of images of pages based on link and page layout analysis. A link analysis system determines relatedness between images by first identifying blocks within web pages, and then analyzing the importance of the blocks to web pages, web pages to blocks, and images to blocks. Based on this analysis, the link analysis system determines the degree to which each image is related to each other image. The link analysis system may also use the relatedness of images to generate a ranking of the images. The link analysis system may also generate a vector representation of the images based on their relatedness and apply a clustering algorithm to the vector representations to identify clusters of related images.

Abstract: Systems and methods for mining service requests for product support are described. In one aspect, unstructured service requests are converted to one or more structured answer objects. Each structured answer object includes hierarchically structured historic problem diagnosis data. In view of a product problem description, a set of the one or more structured answer data objects is identified. Each structured solution data object in the set includes term(s) and/or phrase(s) related to the product problem description. Historic and hierarchically structured problem diagnosis data from the set is provided to an end-user for product problem diagnosis.

Abstract: The present invention relates to compositions and methods for inhibiting unwanted angiogenesis, particularly those of ocular tissues. The treatment, inhibition, and/or prevention of choroidal neovasculature (CNV) is provided, along with an animal model for CNV and imaging techniques that permit the screening of potential agents as anti-angiogenesis and anti-CNV agents.

Abstract: Data classification using stochastic key feature generation includes obtaining a set of training data having associated summaries. The set of training data and associated summaries are used to generate a key feature generation model. Another set of training data having associated categories is also obtained, and the key feature generation model is used to map this other set of training data to a set of vectors. A data classifier is then trained based on the set of vectors and the associated categories.

Abstract: Vision-based document segmentation identifies one or more portions of semantic content of a document. The one or more portions are identified by identifying a plurality of visual blocks in the document, and detecting one or more separators between the visual blocks of the plurality of visual blocks. A content structure for the document is constructed based at least in part on the plurality of visual blocks and the one or more separators, and the content structure identifies the one or more portions of semantic content of the document. The content structure obtained using the vision-based document segmentation can optionally be used during document retrieval.

Abstract: In community mining based on core objects and affiliated objects, a set of core objects for a community of objects are identified from a plurality of objects. The community is expanded, based on the set of core objects, to include a set of affiliated objects. According to one aspect, a model of a community of objects is obtained by grouping a first collection of a plurality of objects into a center portion, and grouping a second collection of the plurality of objects into one or more concentric portions around the center portion. The groupings of the first and second collections of the objects are identified as the community of objects.

Abstract: In a computer booting process, a basic input-output system (BIOS) causes one or more auxiliary programs to be automatically executed. By doing so, the BIOS transfers control of the booting process to the auxiliary programs. Thereafter, it is up to the auxiliary programs to determine whether to continue execution, or to proceed with the booting process. Should the auxiliary programs determine that execution of the auxiliary programs should continue, the booting process is halted and the operating system is not loaded or executed. To determine whether execution of the auxiliary programs should continue, the auxiliary programs monitor for any user input. If any user input is received, unless the user input specifically indicates that execution of the auxiliary programs should not continue, the auxiliary programs will continue execution. Thus, the default is to continue execution of the auxiliary programs.

Abstract: Systems and methods for query expansion are described. In one aspect, new terms are extracted from a newly submitted query. Terms to expand the new terms are identified to a relevant document list. The expansion term are identified at least in part on the new terms and probabilistic correlations from information in a query log. The query log information includes one or more query terms and a corresponding set of document identifiers (IDs). The query terms were previously submitted to a search engine. The document IDs represent each document selected from a list generated by the search engine in response to searching for information relevant to corresponding ones of the query terms.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to performing a query for a search term of a database containing a plurality of structured documents. Those structured documents that do not include the search term are ferreted or filtered out during an initial search. Matched structured documents which are those structured documents that do contain the search term are evaluated by ranking the individual elements based on how well each individual element matches the search term, and indicating to the user the ranking of the individual elements wherein the individual elements can be accessed by the user.

Abstract: The described subject matter provides systems and procedures to make query similarity determinations, wherein the queries are used in information retrieval operations. A same document and/or multiple similar documents are identified that have been selected by a user in response to multiple queries. Responsive to identifying the same document and/or the similar documents, a query cluster is generated that indicates that the queries used to obtain the same and/or similar documents. This is accomplished in a manner that is independent of whether individual ones of the queries are compositionally similar with respect to other ones of the queries.
