Publication number: 20140196498Abstract: Evaporative heat transfer system. The system includes a substrate and a plurality of substantially parallel, spaced-apart ridges extending from the substrate forming vertical liquid manifolds therebetween. A nanoporous membrane is supported on the ridges and a pump delivers a dielectric fluid across the ridges. The fluid is drawn through the liquid manifolds via capillarity provided by the nanoporous membrane and evaporates to dissipate heat flux through the substrate. A preferred dielectric fluid is pentane. It is preferred that membrane porosity vary across the membrane to tailor thermal resistances to limit temperature rises.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 10, 2014Publication date: July 17, 2014Inventors: Rong Xiao, Rishi Raj, Shankar Narayanan, Evelyn N. Publication number: 20120301014Abstract: Tools and techniques for learning to rank local interest points from images using a data-driven scale-invariant feature transform (SIFT) approach termed “Rank-SIFT” are described herein. Rank-SIFT provides a flexible framework to select stable local interest points using supervised learning. A Rank-SIFT application detects interest points, learns differential features, and implements ranking model training in the Gaussian scale space (GSS). In various implementations a stability score is calculated for ranking the local interest points by extracting features from the GSS and characterizing the local interest points based on the features being extracted from the GSS across images containing the same visual objects.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 27, 2011Publication date: November 29, 2012Applicant: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Rong Xiao, Rui Cai, Zhiwei Li, Lei Zhang

Publication number: 20120262890Abstract: An electronic device includes a housing defining an opening, a circuit board fixed in the housing, a processor, and a wheel module. The wheel module includes a seat, a cantilevered arm, a wheel rotatably fixed to the cantilevered arm and partially extending out of the opening, an encoder fixed to the cantilevered arm, and a micro switch fixed to the seat. One end of the cantilevered arm is fixed to the seat, and an opposite end is free. The cantilevered arm is deformable so as to enable the free end to actuate the micro switch, when the cantilevered arm is depressed. The actuated micro switch then generates a trigger signal. The encoder is configured to convert the rotation of the wheel to corresponding electrical signals, when the wheel is rotated. The processor controls the electronic device to perform preset functions according to the trigger signal or the electrical signals.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 31, 2011Publication date: October 18, 2012Applicants: HON HAI PRECISION INDUSTRY CO., LTD., HONG FU JIN PRECISION INDUSTRY (ShenZhen) CO., LTD.Inventors: WEI-RONG XIAO, YA-ZHOU LIU, CHI TANG, PING-CHOU CHEN, HAN-CHE WANG, KUAN-HONG HSIEH

Patent number: 8281246Abstract: A map user interface control provides functionality for displaying a map in conjunction with the display of a Web page. The map control operates in combination with a location extraction component that analyzes the contents of the Web page to identify locations mentioned therein. Once the location extraction component has identified the locations mentioned in the Web page, a map is generated that encompasses the locations identified in the Web page. Once the map has been generated, the map control displays the map in conjunction with the display of the Web page. The map might include visual indicators corresponding to the locations mentioned in the Web page. The map might also include visual indicators corresponding to other locations near the locations identified in the Web page that have been identified using co-occurrence values generated through an analysis of a set of travelogues.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 2009Date of Patent: October 2, 2012Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Rong Xiao, Jiangming Yang, Lei Zhang, Xingrong Chen

Patent number: 8275546Abstract: A location extraction component analyzes a set of travelogues to identify locations mentioned therein. A co-occurrence extraction component computes co-occurrence values for the identified locations. When a request to generate a travel route from a starting location to an ending location is received, suggested locations on or near the travel route are identified through the use of the co-occurrence values. A suggested travel route is then generated that passes through the starting location, the ending location, and the suggested locations. A map may be displayed showing the starting location, the ending location, the suggested locations, and the suggested travel route.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 2009Date of Patent: September 25, 2012Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Rong Xiao, Jiangming Yang, Lei Zhang
