Patent number: 7880355Abstract: An electromagnetically variable transmission includes an outer rotor and an inner rotor. The inner rotor is independently rotatable within a center aperture of the outer rotor. The outer rotor is independently rotatable about the inner rotor. One of the rotors has a plurality of permanent magnets configured in pairs and facing an air gap disposed between the outer rotor and the inner rotor. The other rotor has a plurality of slots spaced about a magnetically permeable core having embedded windings. The outer inner rotors are simultaneously rotatable in one direction. In response to rotation of the outer rotor portion and the inner rotor portion, a magnetic flux path is generated between the permanent magnet pairs, the air gap, the outer rotor core and the inner rotor portion core, to induce electrical power in the windings, which transfers power between the inner rotor portion and the outer rotor portion.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 2006Date of Patent: February 1, 2011Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventors: Ronghai Qu, Wei Wu, John M. Publication number: 20090232664Abstract: A subsea pump drive employs a permanent magnet (PM) motor to drive a subsea pump. The PM motor rotor in one embodiment is canned with a non-magnetic material such as inconel that can provide a desired level of corrosion protection. The PM motor provides a subsea pump drive that is smaller and more efficient, having a high power factor than a subsea pump drive utilizing a conventional induction motor. Patent number: 7521835Abstract: This document discusses, among other things, a stator with transposition between the windings or coils. The coils are free from transposition to increase the fill factor of the stator slots. The transposition at the end connections between an inner coil and an outer coil provide transposition to reduce circulating current loss. The increased fill factor reduces further current losses. Such a stator is used in a dual rotor, permanent magnet machine, for example, in a compressor pump, wind turbine gearbox, wind turbine rotor.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 2006Date of Patent: April 21, 2009Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventors: Ronghai Qu, Patrick Lee Jansen
