Patent number: 8843550Abstract: A system for controlling multiple multipoint control units (MCUs) with a single apparatus is disclosed. The system utilizes a Virtual MCU (VMCU) to communicate with a plurality of MCUs. A user initiates a reserve conference command with the VMCU. If sufficient resources are available, the reservation is made and connection numbers are assigned. When the time for the conference arises, an MCU is assigned to the conference. The participants are then connected to the conference. By using a single VMCU to schedule and coordinate multiple MCUs, the system is able to efficiently schedule a large number of conferences. This greater efficiency in scheduling may allow users to schedule conferences without the advance notice that is usually required.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 2006Date of Patent: September 23, 2014Assignee: Polycom Israel Ltd.Inventors: Roni Even, Sigmund Gavish, Itay Yad-Shalom

Patent number: 8638355Abstract: A user can design their own custom composed view for a videoconference depending on the users' individualized needs. The view can include segments (windows) in which participating conferees' video images are presented and accessory elements such as window borders, text, icons, and the like. The content of the accessory elements can be linked to events within the conference or the content of other objects within the view. A custom composed view for a video conference can be designed off-line by a user, loaded into a videoconferencing device, and executed to generate the custom composed view. The videoconferencing device can synchronize the content of accessory elements with the content of other objects presented in the view.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 2012Date of Patent: January 28, 2014Assignee: Polycom, Inc.Inventors: Aviv Eisenberg, Roni Even

Publication number: 20060182130Abstract: The present disclosure provides methods of establishing communication between endpoints located in different gatekeeper zones. An electronic message comprising (i) an alias for a first endpoint and (ii) an address of a first gatekeeper associated with the first endpoint is delivered from a first computer associated with the first endpoint to a second computer associated with a second endpoint. Alternatively, the deliverance of the message can occur within the same computer. Upon receiving the message, a second endpoint is instructed to replace its original gatekeeper address with the gatekeeper address listed in the message. Subsequently, the second endpoint uses the alias of the first endpoint to establish communication with the first endpoint.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 18, 2006Publication date: August 17, 2006Applicant: Polycom, Inc.Inventors: Roni Even, Amit Keynan, Michael Tucker

Publication number: 20030058836Abstract: A method for establishing a multimedia connection with quality of service (QoS) using an ATM backbone for ISDN network or IP network calls. QoS makes IP over ATM useful for video and audio conferencing by ensuring a minimum packet error rate at acceptable bit transmission rates. The invention will utilize the H.323 annex C protocol to transmit IP gateway transmissions through an ATM backbone network. This invention enables H.320 endpoints having a connection to an ATM network to send QoS communications to other endpoints. When call setup is initiated between two endpoints, an ISDN (or IP) call is sent to a gateway. The gateway will utilize a network gatekeeper to route the call to the addressed endpoint's corresponding gateway. When a route is established, the call will be converted to an H.323 annex C protocol transmission and sent through the ATM backbone to the destination gateway.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 15, 2001Publication date: March 27, 2003Inventor: Roni Even
