  • Patent number: 7692789
Abstract: The invention is a system and method of detecting a concentration of an element in a soil sample wherein an opening or slot is formed in a container that supports a soil sample that was extracted from the ground whereupon at least a length of the soil sample is exposed via the opening. At each of a plurality of points along the exposed length thereof, the soil sample is ablated whereupon a plasma is formed that emits light characteristic of the elemental composition of the ablated soil sample. Each instance of emitted light is separated according to its wavelength and for at least one of the wavelengths a corresponding data value related to the intensity of the light is determined. As a function of each data value a concentration of an element at the corresponding point along the length of the soil core sample is determined.

  • Patent number: 7007541
Abstract: A plurality of multi-parameter monitoring tool assemblies are connectable over a communications network and are further in communication with a central controller. Each of the tool assemblies is configured to interconnect with one or more sensor head components which may be employable in the monitoring of water quality. According to the system described herein, the central controller may periodically communicate with one or more of the tool assemblies connected in the communications network and extract, process, and display information as to the configuration and operation of one or more tool assemblies.

  • Publication number: 20030148672
Abstract: A multi-parameter tool assembly provides for monitoring of one or more parameters, such as those relating to water quality. As part of the tool assembly, a sensor head is configured to receive and electrically interconnected with a plurality of interchangeable sensor head components. The sensor head components are specially configured to provide for the removal and insertion out of sensors through the application of a linear force. The housing for the tool assembly, which may include a plurality of layers, is further configured for simplified assembly with the sensor head and other components through the use of at least one radially compressive sealing device. The assembly is further connectable to a communications network wherein signals may be exchanged with one or more remote locations.
