Publication number: 20240143549Abstract: Techniques are provided for an object file system for an object store. Data, maintained by a computing device, is stored into slots of an object. The data within the slots of the object is represented as a data structure comprising a plurality of nodes comprising cloud block numbers used to identify the object and particular slots of the object. A mapping metafile is maintained to map block numbers used to store the data by the computing device to cloud block numbers of nodes representing portion of the data stored within slots of the object. The object is stored into the object store, and the mapping metafile and the data structure are used to provide access through the object file system to portions of data within the object.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 8, 2024Publication date: May 2, 2024Inventors: Tijin George, Jagavar Nehra, Roopesh Chuggani, Dnyaneshwar Nagorao Pawar, Atul Ramesh Pandit, Anil Kumar Ponnapur, Jose Mathew, Sriram Venketaraman

Publication number: 20240128984Abstract: Techniques are provided for implementing additional compression for existing compressed data. Format information stored within a data block is evaluated to determine whether the data block is compressed or uncompressed. In response to the data block being compressed according to a first compression format, the data block is decompressed using the format information. The data block is compressed with one or more other data blocks to create compressed data having a second compression format different than the first compression format.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 11, 2023Publication date: April 18, 2024Inventors: Roopesh Chuggani, Rahul Thapliyal

Publication number: 20240126466Abstract: Techniques are provided for incremental snapshot copy to an object store. A list of deallocated block numbers of primary storage of a computing device are identified. Entries for the list of deallocated block numbers are removed from a mapping metafile. A list of changed block numbers corresponding to changes between a current snapshot of the primary storage and a prior copied snapshot copied from the primary storage to the object store is determined. The mapping metafile is evaluated using the list of changed block numbers to identify a deduplicated set of changed block numbers without entries within the mapping metafile. An object, comprising data of the deduplicated set of changed block numbers, is transmitted to the object store for storage as a new copied snapshot.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 26, 2023Publication date: April 18, 2024Inventors: Tijin George, Jagavar Nehra, Roopesh Chuggani, Dnyaneshwar Nagorao Pawar

Patent number: 11941280Abstract: Techniques are provided for caching data during an on-demand restore using a cloud block map. A client may be provided with access to an on-demand volume during a restore process that copies backup data from a snapshot within a remote object store to the on-demand volume stored within local storage. In response to receiving a request from the client for a block of the backup data not yet restored from the snapshot to the on-demand volume, the block may be retrieved from the snapshot in the remote object store. The block may be cached within a cloud block map stored within the local storage as a cached block. The client may be provided with access to the cached block.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 2022Date of Patent: March 26, 2024Assignee: NetApp, Inc.Inventors: Jagavar Nehra, Roopesh Chuggani, Abhisar, Sumith Makam

Publication number: 20240078160Abstract: Techniques are provided for on-demand serverless disaster recovery. A primary node may host a primary volume. Snapshots of the primary volume may be backed up to an object store. In response to failure, a secondary node and/or an on-demand volume may be created on-demand. The secondary node may provide clients with failover access to the on-demand volume while a restore process restores a snapshot of the primary volume to the on-demand volume. In some embodiments, there was no secondary node and/or on-demand volume while the primary node was operational. This conserves computing resources that would be wasted by otherwise hosting the secondary node and/or on-demand volume while clients were able to access the primary volume through the primary node. Modifications directed to the on-demand volume are incrementally backed up to the object store for subsequently restoring the primary volume after recovery.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 13, 2023Publication date: March 7, 2024Inventors: Dnyaneshwar Nagorao Pawar, Sumith Makam, Roopesh Chuggani`, Tijin George

Patent number: 11899620Abstract: Techniques are provided for managing objects within an object store. An object is maintained within an object store. In an embodiment, a rule is enforced for the object that in-use slots of the object are non-modifiable and unused slots of the object are modifiable. Metadata of additional information for a slot within the object is attached to the object header. A first application allowed to access user data within the slot is provided access to the user data without being provided access to the metadata. A second application allowed access to the user data and the additional information is provided with access to the user data and the metadata for identifying a location of additional information within the object.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 2019Date of Patent: February 13, 2024Assignee: NetApp, Inc.Inventors: Tijin George, Jagavar Nehra, Roopesh Chuggani, Dnyaneshwar Nagorao Pawar, Atul Ramesh Pandit, Kiyoshi James Komatsu

Publication number: 20230359564Abstract: Methods and systems for a networked storage system are provided. One method includes: generating, by a first node, a dummy entry in a storage location cache of the first node, the dummy entry associated with a read request received by the first node for data stored using a logical object owned by a second node; receiving, by the first node, an invalidation request to invalidate any storage location entry associated with the data, the invalidation request sent in response to the second node receiving a write request to modify the data; invalidating, by the first node, the dummy entry; receiving, by the first node, a response to the read request from the second node with the requested data; and replacing, by the first node, the dummy entry with a storage location entry and invalidating the storage location entry based on the invalidated dummy entry.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 14, 2023Publication date: November 9, 2023Inventors: Sumith Makam, Rahul Thapliyal, Kartik R, Roopesh Chuggani, Abhisar Lnu, Maria Josephine Priyanka S

Patent number: 11797477Abstract: Techniques are provided for managing objects within an object store. An object is maintained within an object store. The object comprises a plurality of slots. Each slot is used to store a unit of data accessible to applications hosted by remote computing devices. The object comprises an object header used to store metadata for each slot. A determination is made that the object is a fragmented object comprising an in-use slot of in-use data and a freed slot from which data was freed. The object is compacted to retain in-use data and exclude freed data as a rewritten object.Type: GrantFiled: October 11, 2021Date of Patent: October 24, 2023Assignee: NetApp, Inc.Inventors: Tijin George, Jagavar Nehra, Roopesh Chuggani, Dnyaneshwar Nagorao Pawar, Atul Ramesh Pandit, Kiyoshi James Komatsu

Patent number: 11630807Abstract: Techniques are provided for managing objects within an object store. An object is maintained within an object store. The object is used to store data of a snapshot of a file system hosted by a remote computing device. A determination is made that the snapshot was deleted by the remote computing device. Bitmaps describing objects within the object store that are related to snapshots of the file system are evaluated to determine that the object is unique to the deleted snapshot. The object is freed from storage within the object store.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 2021Date of Patent: April 18, 2023Assignee: NetApp, Inc.Inventors: Tijin George, Jagavar Nehra, Roopesh Chuggani, Dnyaneshwar Nagorao Pawar, Atul Ramesh Pandit, Kiyoshi James Komatsu
