  • Publication number: 20100030459
Abstract: In one embodiment of the present invention, an end-user can input a correction to a map error, directly on the device. The device is then able to use the correction without external processing of the correction. Hence, it is no longer necessary for an end-user to simply report errors to the map vendor over a web link, then wait for that map vendor to verify the error, update its maps and finally supply the end-user with updates—a cycle that can take months and sometimes years to complete. Instead, in one example embodiment, the navigation device can use the correction immediately. End-users can also share correction with other end-users and also with a shared remote server that aggregates, validates and distributes corrections.

  • Publication number: 20090177379
Abstract: A method of operating a portable navigation device or navigation system is described, together with a computer program for implementing said method and a and navigation system capable of carrying out that method. The method includes the steps of providing a means by which a user can identify a specific location or location range on the surface of the earth, which may include the current location of the device or navigation system, and at least temporarily storing said location or range in memory. The method includes the steps of presenting to the user a plurality of user-selectable options each indicative of a plurality of transient phenomena, the selection of one or more of which results in the association of that or those phenomena with the identified location or range and the storage of such together therewith as primary information.

  • Publication number: 20080215238
Abstract: A method and device are disclosed for navigation. In at least one embodiment, the method enabling a navigation device to output a warning; determining, within the navigation device, whether or not at least one parameter governing output of the warning is met; and outputting the warning upon determining that each at least one parameter governing output of the warning is met. In at least one embodiment, the navigation device includes a processor to enable the navigation device to output a warning and to determine, within the navigation device, whether or not at least one parameter governing output of the warning is met; and an output device to output the warning upon the processor determining that each at least one parameter governing output of the warning is met.

  • Publication number: 20080208448
Abstract: A method and device are disclosed. In at least one embodiment, the method includes determining a route of travel, in a navigation device, based upon at least a received destination location; determining whether or not the determined route of travel includes travel on a limited access road; and prompting a user of the navigation device to either accept the determined route of travel or request an alternate route of travel, upon determining that the determined route of travel includes travel on a limited access road.

  • Publication number: 20080167800
Abstract: A method and device are disclosed for navigation. In at least one embodiment, the method includes determining a route of travel, in a navigation device, based upon at least a received destination location; determining whether or not travel along the determined route will at least one of meet and exceed a first threshold; and prompting, upon determining that travel along the determined route will at least one of meet and exceed the first threshold, a user of the navigation device to enable output of a warning to break from driving a vehicle, in which the navigation device is located, during travel along the determined route.

  • Publication number: 20080167797
Abstract: A method and device are disclosed for navigation. In at least one embodiment, the method includes determining, in a navigation device, at least one of, when an instruction for travel along a route of travel is not due to be output for a distance exceeding a distance threshold, and when no instruction for travel along the travel route is output for a period of time exceeding a time threshold; and placing the navigation device in a power conserving mode upon the determination being made. In at least one embodiment, the navigation device includes a processor to determine at least one of, when an instruction for travel along a route of travel is not due to be output for a distance exceeding a distance threshold, and when no instruction for travel along the travel route is output for a period of time exceeding a time threshold, the processor placing the navigation device in a power conserving mode upon the determination being made.

  • Publication number: 20050167887
Abstract: A valve in a mould as to provide a potential airflow pathway either way, the valving being characterised in that it has at least a substantially closed condition from which it can be opened by a pressure differential in one direction that is below that which will cause it to open or fail to allow an airflow in the other direction.
