    Abstract: An improved method and system for accessing wireless data services that reduce messaging and enable roaming subscribers to access data services are described. A wireless communication system in accordance with the present invention includes at least a service control point and a gateway system (e.g., a Gateway Generalized Packet Radio Service Serving Node (GGSN)) that is coupled to a data network. To obtain access to data services, a wireless subscriber unit establishes communication with a gateway system and requests data services from the gateway system. In response to the request, the gateway system queries the service control point regarding authorized data services for the subscriber unit. If the gateway system receives a negative reply from the service control point, then the gateway system denies access to the data services by the subscriber Unit.

  • Method and apparatus for call interception capabilities for use with intelligent network services in a communications system

Responsive to the call involving a service using identification numbers unknown to the communications system, a remote database associated with the service is queried, wherein the remote database contains a plurality of identification numbers. A result is received from the remote database in response to querying the remote database. A call interception service is initiated based on the result.

  • Method and apparatus for intercepting calls in a communications system

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for intercepting calls within a wireless communications system. In particular, the present invention provides a call intercept component and a number of control points. Each of the control points is associated with a layer or component within the wireless communications system that handles messages associated with a mobile station within the wireless communications system. Each control point monitors messages received at the component or layer associated with the control point. The messages are examined to determine whether the message is appropriate for interception. If the message is appropriate for interception, the message is then sent the call interception layer. In turn, the call interception layer formats data from the message and routes it to a destination.
