  • Publication number: 20250017254
Abstract: Disclosed herein are compositions produced from microorganisms that are capable of producing high levels of docosapentaenoic acid (DPA(n-3)), and methods for producing the compositions. The invention is further directed to microbial strains and derivatives therefrom, biomasses, and microbial oils.

Inventors: Ross E. ZIRKLE, Oliver MAY
  • Patent number: 11987819
Abstract: The subject disclosure features, in one aspect, a method for producing lipids enriched for EPA, comprising modifying a microalga to increase expression of PFA1, and/or PFA3, and culturing the modified microalga under conditions which allow the expression of PFA1, and/or PFA3, wherein lipids enriched for EPA are produced. Also featured is a recombinant microalga in which PFA1, and/or PFA3, is overexpressed. Such recombinant microalgae have been demonstrated herein to produce very favorable fatty acid lipid profiles (e.g., increased levels of EPA, increased ratio of EPA:DHA, decreased levels of DPA n-6, etc.).
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 11, 2017
Date of Patent: May 21, 2024
    Assignee: DSM IP Assets B.V.
    Inventors: Anne-Cecile V. Bayne, Ross E. Zirkle
  • Patent number: 10793837
Abstract: This disclosure concerns a novel modular docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) synthase and recombinant host organisms genetically modified with such synthase and one or more accessory proteins that allow for and/or improve the production of PUFAs in the host organism. The disclosure also concerns methods of making and using such organisms as well as products obtained from such organisms.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 6, 2016
Date of Patent: October 6, 2020
    Assignee: DSM IP Assets B.V

  • Publication number: 20190338214
Abstract: The present invention relates to processes for obtaining a lipid from a cell by lysing the cell, contacting the cell with a base and/or salt, and separating the lipid. The present invention is also directed to a lipid prepared by the processes of the present invention. The present invention is also directed to microbial lipids having a particular anisidine value, peroxide value, and/or phosphorus content.
