  • Publication number: 20130084146
Abstract: A batcher unit for a book block finishing machine can include at least one receiving member to receive a plurality of sheets and stack the plurality of sheets into a book block having a binding face lying in a binding plane. The batcher unit can also include at least one adhesive applicator to apply adhesive to the at least one binding face of the book block to bind together the edges of plurality of sheets. The adhesive applicator can be moveable in relative to the binding plane and can direct a stream of adhesive toward the binding plane along a first adhesive axis when the adhesive applicator is in a first position, and along a second adhesive axis when the adhesive applicator is in a second position. The first and second adhesive axes can intersect the binding plane at respective angles.

  • Publication number: 20120181739
Abstract: An apparatus for conveying a plurality of sheets into a receiving member includes receiving member and a conveyor for conveying a plurality of sheets into the receiving member so that the sheets are stacked one upon another to form a book block. The conveyor can have a downstream end that is moveable relative to the stack of sheets in the receiving member. The apparatus can also include an actuator connected to the conveyor that is operable to move the downstream end of the conveyor relative to the stack of sheets in the receiving member.

  • Publication number: 20120170996
Abstract: A batcher unit for a book block finishing machine can include a plurality of receiving members. Each receiving member can be operable to receive and stack a corresponding plurality of sheets. The batcher unit can also include a plurality of adhesive applicators. At least one adhesive applicator can be associated with each receiving member. Each adhesive applicator can be displaceable relative to its associated receiving member to apply adhesive to at least one edge of the stack of sheets in the receiving member to form a book block, and each adhesive applicator can be operable to be independently displaceable with respect to the other adhesive applicators.

  • Patent number: 7926688
Abstract: A web processing assembly including first, second and third fixed spaced apart pairs of nip rollers moving the web respectively at a first, second and third speeds, the first and third speeds being constant and similar, the second speed being variable with a mean speed similar to the first and third speeds, a first idler roller engaging the web between the first and second pair of rollers and a second idler roller engaging the web between the second and third pair of rollers, each idler roller maintaining the web in constant tension by moving along a restrained path perpendicular to its axis to compensate for a difference between the variable second speed and the respective one of the constant first and third speeds. A method for processing a web and system for conveying a web are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20070272083
Abstract: A system for determining a level of saturation of a VOC filter in a filtering apparatus, including a weight sensor for sensing a weight of at least a portion of the filtering apparatus including the VOC filter and for producing a corresponding weight signal, a weight calculator for determining an actual weight of the VOC filter based on the weight signal and for producing corresponding actual weight data, a saturation interpreter for determining the level of saturation of the VOC filter based on a comparison between the actual weight data and benchmark weight data, and an interface for providing an indication of the level of saturation.

  • Patent number: 5540149
Abstract: In a web offset rotary printing machine having a printing tower with upper and lower portions defining a recess between them, and an interchangeable cassette lodged in the recess and supporting at least plate and blanket cylinders, the upper and lower portions are joined by an elevator mechanism so that the upper portion may be raised and lowered relative to the tower portion to accommodate the interchange of cassettes of different heights. A cassette is supported on transverse linear bearings on the lower portion, and helps support the upper portion when the latter is lowered onto it. The linear bearings allow a cassette to be slid in and out from either side of the machine. The cassettes may be of different heights, thus facilitating optimization of the cylinder arrangement in the cassette.

  • Patent number: 4872658
Abstract: A pendulum type folder chute detachably mounted to spindles journalled in the side frame walls and having duplicate crank arrangements on either side thereof, including a crank arm, a link arm, and a drive wheel on either side frame such that the mass and driving force of the crank arrangement is balanced. The drive wheel includes a stroke adjustment feature which includes a circular recess defined in the outer surface of the drive wheel, the center of which is offset from the axis of rotation of the drive wheel, and a circular disc is provided in the circular recess rotatable therewithin and having its geometric center coinciding with the geometric center of the recess. A plurality of holes are in a circular locus in the recess coinciding with the locus of a plurality of holes provided on the disc near the periphery thereof. Bolt means pass through the holes in the disc to engage the holes in the recess to thereby lock the disc in a selected position.

  • Patent number: 4811880
Abstract: In a business forms press and method wherein a wide, continuous web of paper is separated into a plurality of business forms width sections, a web separating unit provides pairs of bars for each web section, arranging the pairs of bars so that the axis of these bars is at an obtuse angle to the longitudinal direction of the press and at an obtuse angle to the path of the webs, arranging the pairs of bars so that their distance between the axis thereof and the angle of the plane through the axis of the respective pair of bars with the plane of the web entering the bars is such to provide lateral displacements of the different web sections from each other.
