  • Patent number: 5612507
Abstract: A process and composition for the beneficial utilization of waste materials which contain energetic materials are disclosed. Predetermined quantities of the waste material containing energetic materials are placed in admixture with commercial blasting agents causing the energetic materials to participate in the detonation process thereby utilizing energetic materials which would otherwise enter the waste stream. The waste material, in particulate form, that contains the energetic material is introduced into the blasting agent when the latter is in a relatively fluid state. The modified blasting agent is suitable for use in the normal manner such as in bulk or packaged form.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 12, 1994
Date of Patent: March 18, 1997
Assignees: United Technologies Corporation, Universal Tech Corporation
Inventors: Ross P. Clark, Walter B. Grens, Oldrich Machacek, Gary R. Eck

  • Patent number: 5535946
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method for safely and easily shredding a variety of material particularly material having a low melt temperature and/or containing material sensitive to high static electric charges, such as 1.1 and 1.3 class material. The method comprises applying a cloud of gas vapor onto the shredding means to cool the shredding means to a temperature below that of the melt temperature of the material being shredded and to also reduce the static electric charge on the resulting particles of material which may develop during the shredding process. Further described is an apparatus for carrying out the method.

  • Patent number: 4822637
Abstract: Fabrication of magnetic recording media having a coating containing harsh pigment like CrO.sub.2 particles and adapted for frequent contact with a head, with good durability, abrasivity, etc., accommodated by using a lubricant system including a fluoro-silicone oil and a compatible fatty-acid-ester like butoxy ethyl stearate.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 7, 1986
Date of Patent: April 18, 1989
    Assignee: Memorex Corporation
Inventors: Fred Chi-Tat Chung, Ross P. Clark
  • Patent number: 4736845
Abstract: Described are devices for securing a computer tape reel to an associated surrounding "wrap" where a T-sponge is inserted as an "inertial brake/hold down" between reel and wrap.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 18, 1985
Date of Patent: April 12, 1988

  • Patent number: 4686146
Abstract: A novel resinous binder composition is disclosed for a magnetic recording tape or like media. Magnetic particles are dispersed within a resinous matrix having both a "hard" and a "soft" component. The "hard" component is fabricated by exposing a resin capable of being cured by electron beam irradiation. The magnetic recording media coating is very apt for use with harsh pigment like CrO.sub.2 particles and is adapted for frequent contact with a head, being adapted to exhibit good durability, abrasivity, etc. by virtue of using a lubricant system including a fluoro-silicone oil and a compatible fatty-acid-ester like butoxy ethyl stearate.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 18, 1986
Date of Patent: August 11, 1987
